Shit. We gonna put a new headgasket on that mutha and roll.You can barely feel the score in the cylinder (it's much more visible in the pic than it is IRL), and every cylinder has unbelievable compression (especially for a turbo motor). The damage to the piston is VERY minor. The only thing I'd worry about would be pinching the top ring land, like you see on engines where the piston kissed a valve when the timing belt broke. But the damage is not even in the same league as that.The big deal now is to find a used T-VIS plate at a good price.

4 years of oil leaks (that we more or less found) really wouldn't mind taking it apart piece by piece and pressure washing it, but it's not really worth all that at this point

Yours is the first gen. mattc's is a second gen. You have the 4AGE engine, whereas he has the 3SGTE. His is a '91.
