I'm sure you all have an opinion on this so go ahead and tell me what it is.

I looked at BestBuy and they had about 5 models by LG, Philips, Samsung, Toshiba and Panasonic but the only one that had component INPUTS was the Philips...the others only had s-video in.

Thanks for your thoughts.

save your money....wait for hd-dvd or blu-ray to get cheaper or just buy progressive scan recorder, there isnt that much difference for what you pay......trust me....and you cant up-convert through s-video.....most likely they had HDMI or DVI....

^the upconvert output on all of these is HDMI, the s-video I was talking about was the input to the DVD Recorder. The Philips was the only one with a component input.

The other day I picked up the Philips from BestBuy but wasn't impressed when it only upconverts to 480p over the HDMI connection -- that's not even upconverting, it's just progressive scan marketed as upconversion. It's getting returned ASAP.

Any other thoughts on brands though?

I have a Pioneer DVD recorder with vhs, but not upconvert.....its works pretty good, but the instructions might as well have been in russian. Sorry for not reading the first post entirely.
