In the save window there is a pull down menu below the file and directory list. Word 97-2003 format does appear (though not quite in alphabetical order.) Just look a little lower on the list and you shoud see it. It refers to it as word 97-2003 -RTF format (*.doc), maybe there will be formatting losses but give it a try.

no i dont think you understand

i cant open this file because my version of word doesnt recognize .docx files

if i could open this docx file to save it as an rtf file i would...that would be a simple fix

as it stands, i cant open the file on my version of office

you cant even open it in notepad or wordpad? i mean that works for plenty of other files, weird formatting or not.

forceit open in notepad, maybe you can see the text then.

change it to a .doc and try to open.

if you have 07', not sure, it should be backwards compatable.

its not backwards compatible as far as i know

i just ran into this problem

either revert it to windows 2003 through your copy of 2007 or open it with notepad and then youre really risking fuckups

if its absolutely impossible for you to get to an office 2003 computer then notepad is probably your only bet

just use 2003...i hated 2007 and it gave me nothing but problems

well heres the deal

i just opened in notepad and wordpad...neither one worked, it just gave some funky ass symbols

would anyone be able to open it for me and save it as a .doc file?

does anyone on here have a copy of 2007 beta they could do that on?

http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/beta/converter.mspx

Microsoft offers a compatibility pack for this.

Either use that converter, or use the copy of 2007 you have to open it, and resave it as the correct format...

you have to reopen it in 2007 and save it as a "97-2003" file, .doc
simple as that. If you can't get back to Office 2007, you're SOL for now
