In the save window there is a pull down menu below the file and directory list. Word 97-2003 format does appear (though not quite in alphabetical order.) Just look a little lower on the list and you shoud see it. It refers to it as word 97-2003 -RTF format (*.doc), maybe there will be formatting losses but give it a try.

no i dont think you understandi cant open this file because my version of word doesnt recognize .docx filesif i could open this docx file to save it as an rtf file i would...that would be a simple fixas it stands, i cant open the file on my version of office

you cant even open it in notepad or wordpad? i mean that works for plenty of other files, weird formatting or not.[Edited on September 21, 2006 at 8:21 PM. Reason : wouldnt be perfect, but you could read it somewhat]

forceit open in notepad, maybe you can see the text then. change it to a .doc and try to open.if you have 07', not sure, it should be backwards compatable.http://www.saugus.net/Computer/Extensions/docx/view

its not backwards compatible as far as i knowi just ran into this problemeither revert it to windows 2003 through your copy of 2007 or open it with notepad and then youre really risking fuckupsif its absolutely impossible for you to get to an office 2003 computer then notepad is probably your only betjust use 2003...i hated 2007 and it gave me nothing but problems

http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/beta/converter.mspxMicrosoft offers a compatibility pack for this.

Either use that converter, or use the copy of 2007 you have to open it, and resave it as the correct format...
9/21/2006 8:41:22 PM

Reason : more people would have helped if i hadn't have made the thread]
9/21/2006 9:41:37 PM
you have to reopen it in 2007 and save it as a "97-2003" file, .docsimple as that. If you can't get back to Office 2007, you're SOL for now
