All the old Avett Brothers threads were old, and instead of posting a new thread everytime they have a concert around here per the usual, I figure we can just keep everything in this oneThe new six-track 'The Gleam' came out today; it has no Bob Crawford and therefore no bass, but the resulting songs are just easy listening acoustic affairs focusing on usual Avett themes of

good ep.
9/19/2006 9:10:13 PM
I don't like the EP as a whole as much as their other stuff, but "If It's The Beaches" is amazing.
9/19/2006 9:59:46 PM
I concur, I like the EP but not as much as their other stuff...In general though, these guys can do no wrong. They've been playing a song that will be on their next album at shows lately, I really like it a lot and it has me looking forward to the next one already (supposedly Q1 '07).Anyone been attending any shows recently? For me:Aug 25th - Asheville (the Orange Peel)Aug 27th - Charlotte (Verizon)Sep 9th - Greensboro (Get Downtown Festival)and upcoming:Sep 21st - Athens (Georgia Theatre)
9/20/2006 9:44:51 AM
I'll have to check out the new EP. I love these guys.
9/20/2006 9:45:32 AM
the first two or three times i saw them i was totally down. but after seeing them at the cat's cradle i just haven't found myself interested anymore. it's like the crowds keep getting more and more obnoxious, and not in a cute way.
9/20/2006 10:07:41 AM
my roommates keep trying to get me to listen to these guysguess i need to get one of their cds and listen to it
9/20/2006 10:13:19 AM
Heard them for the first time at their show in G-boro, and it wasn't half bad.Pretty neat mix of genres and music.
9/20/2006 10:47:35 AM
that shits on wknc all the time bitchesget on it[Edited on September 20, 2006 at 11:35 AM. Reason : oh and they are from where i grew up]
9/20/2006 11:35:00 AM
these dudes were in art school with me at ecu. good artists and good musicians. Nice guys tooI saw their very first show where they broke away from their hard rock band and tested out the folky stuff. It was pretty rowdy.[Edited on September 20, 2006 at 11:42 AM. Reason : .]
9/20/2006 11:41:21 AM
sarijoul: I know exactly what you mean, and it sucks. Lots of teenage myspacers + the 20-somethings seem to show up mostly to get trashed. But still, i think they are one of the best live acts I've ever seen.slackerb: their show in G-boro (if you're talking about the outdoor one) was not one of their best (though still good ). If you can catch them in their natural environment (small clubs), its' much much better.
9/20/2006 11:49:31 AM
just saw these guys a few weeks ago at moe.down. pretty good set. hope they come back to nyc sometime, b/c i missed them when they played the bowery.
9/20/2006 12:28:36 PM
Haven't heard the EP.I wonder if there's a song on it about a pretty girl?
9/20/2006 1:06:51 PM
much to my chagrin, there isn't.I think those are some of their best songs. And in case you hadn't noticed, very rarely are they actually about girls...
9/20/2006 1:13:07 PM
not specifically in name this time, my favorite off of 'The Gleam' is also 'If It's the Beaches'even though probably close to a solid third of all songs ever written are about a girl in some way or another
9/20/2006 1:13:53 PM
^^ Some of them are about actual girls; I even know a few of em.
9/20/2006 1:22:08 PM
what i meant was the songs are NOT just songs about girls, even if they are about girls.dig?
9/20/2006 1:25:30 PM
^ Yeah I agree. It's just for me, I know how Scott write's his songs, and I know Seth really well (or use to), so I feel that their song-writing is getting repetitive. Not that the music is bad, as I still find their music to be good music.

anybody going to the new year's eve show in charlotte or the show here on the 29th?i was at the new years eve show last year at neighborhood theatre, it rocked, i'm POed that I'm not gonna be able to this year
12/16/2006 7:01:50 AM
I'll be at New Year's. My roomie has some extra tickets I think, if that's what's holding you back.Always a great show.Wish I could make it to Raleigh on the 29th too, but by the time I talked myself into it, the tickets were gone. Oh well.I saw them last month at this place called the Bamboo Room in Florida. It was totally awesome. House of Blues-type place (but smaller) with tables. Of course, since I was the first to get tickets, our table was front + center. Crowd was small, about 15-20 people. So we all just sat there and got to request every single song they played, and they rocked the fuck out for us. It was great.
12/16/2006 11:02:21 AM
really want to see these boys live. sadly, ill be driving to Colorado on the 29th. saw the Hackensaw Boys a few days ago and they were awesome, a similar to show to the Avett Brothers I imagine.
12/16/2006 11:31:01 AM
^^ do you still have those tickets?
12/16/2006 4:37:00 PM
I'll check on it for ya
12/16/2006 6:08:39 PM

12/16/2006 7:43:39 PM
ok, can't drive to colorado so anyway have tickets for the show tomorrow night?
12/28/2006 5:05:53 PM
^^i went last year and the crowd was even more obnoxious than usual. to the point of it being very annoying actually.
12/28/2006 5:28:16 PM
Saw them This year at SmileFest and the greensboro downtown festival thing. I'll see them again new year's eve in charlotte.
12/28/2006 8:38:22 PM

12/29/2006 12:35:32 AM

They just announced a show (in june?) at the NC museum of art. Should be a great intimate venue.[Edited on January 4, 2007 at 12:52 PM. Reason : df]
1/4/2007 12:52:01 PM
^^ when do tickets go on sale?
1/4/2007 4:33:44 PM
I think they said tickets will go on sale in April for the June 16th show. Also the next show in NC, I think, is in Boone on April 21.
1/4/2007 8:00:30 PM
I have seen them at the art museum... rather good show, really nice venue. And yes, as of right now, their next show is in Boone at the Appalachian Roots Festival... I am seriously contemplating a road trip up there because it has been WAY TOO long since I have seen these guys!!Proud to see them doing a European tour as well!!
1/4/2007 10:12:15 PM
They were awesome at Lincoln and Neighborhood Theatre. I have my fix for a few weeks.
1/5/2007 4:29:50 AM

3/19/2007 1:24:44 PM

Avetts on tonight on Conan! Big night!I'm curious to see what they play for their one selection, especially with the new album coming out
5/12/2007 12:08:53 AM
DAMN, did not see this thread, sorry for the repeat of that ^[Edited on May 12, 2007 at 12:21 AM. Reason : (oic, no wonder-- it's an oldie)]
5/12/2007 12:20:24 AM
Was in San Francisco for a business trip a couple weeks back and theyhappened to be in town, so I got to check out the show. that was a good show.
5/12/2007 12:20:15 PM
anyone see conan... from the looks of their message board, they killed it...
5/12/2007 5:08:52 PM
i did. it was ok. i don't think they won over many new fans though.
5/12/2007 5:26:09 PM
I had actually STRONGLY considered making the SF show a road trip, but work got busy and they rocked some conan. It was surreal seeing them on there, I feel like I've grown up with them-- seeing them so many times in places like UNC's crappy little auditorium, to the lincoln theatre, to all kinds of places in charlotte, then the pavilion, now CONAN.They're catchin on, i believe...
5/13/2007 9:08:37 AM
they played at irving plaza last night, but i already had 2nd row center tix to jorma kaukonen at carnegie hall, which was fucking amazing! i keep missing these guys every time the come to the city.
5/13/2007 1:58:04 PM
anyone going to the schoolkids in-store dealie today? I'll be there. Look for the skinny blonde guy in the brown tshirt.
