Im going in for an MRA/MRI on Monday and I was wondering if it would be kosher to ask for a copy of the images on a cd or something. If Im paying thousands of dollars for them to take pictures of my brain, I at least want a souvenir!orrr, would they just laugh at me.
9/19/2006 2:42:30 PM
You can ask for them, I don't know if they will give them to you, but I doubt they laugh. When I got one one I didn't get anything.BTW, getting an MRI is annoying, sounds like a machine gun for 30 min, then they talk to you on this tiny speaker and expect you to understand what they are saying.
9/19/2006 2:45:07 PM
yeah, you can get them - they're yours. my wife has gotten several X-rays and CT scans in the past couple weeks, and she has copies of all of them on film or CD. If you have to go to another specialist or dr, you will probably have to transport the images yourself anyway.
9/19/2006 2:45:47 PM
where... unc?
9/19/2006 3:10:37 PM
dammit i shoulda asked for one of minedo they keep them forever?
9/19/2006 3:11:43 PM
yep, they're yours. Just ask for them.
9/19/2006 3:27:14 PM
I have my mri's from2 weeks agoyou should be given them...as they are yours to keep
9/19/2006 3:35:24 PM
i asked for them and i still have them... comes in handy when seeing other DR cause i bring them with me, dont have to ask for them to be sent
9/19/2006 4:06:37 PM
that makes a lot of sense, I'll ask for them.Im going to the little wake med hospital over in cary. Its just a MRA for my brain, making sure I dont have an aneurysm. Im having a lot of symptoms.
9/19/2006 6:21:23 PM
Had more of these done than I would've liked. I got them from the Mayo clinic on CD and it even came with the program to read the files (you could scroll through the pictures just like they do). They may charge you a small fee for the CD itself. It is always a good idea to get copies of your records though...
9/19/2006 6:23:29 PM
i had to wait till after my surgery to get a copy, but i got them
9/19/2006 6:28:02 PM
well if you have an aneurysm , come to Duke, maybe ill take care of ya........ [Edited on September 19, 2006 at 6:47 PM. Reason : recommend dr friedman]
9/19/2006 6:45:05 PM

9/19/2006 6:56:04 PM
Yes and if they give you shit just say your doctor wants them.
9/19/2006 8:31:49 PM

9/19/2006 9:16:33 PM

9/19/2006 9:22:30 PM
...with contrast
9/19/2006 9:37:00 PM
my uncle took a cat scan of my head. and he sent me the pics.i also got to see the cat scan of my kidney, but didnt bother to get a pic
9/19/2006 10:54:51 PM
MRA is an MRI with contrast... and even if i did see how HUGE you were...............im legally bound to never utter a squeek about it[Edited on September 20, 2006 at 12:11 AM. Reason : no stents from me........i would just do sobriety checks every few minutes ]
9/20/2006 12:11:10 AM
haha, alright as long as youd keep it quiet explain the sobriety check thing
9/20/2006 12:37:31 AM
neuro exams: i ask if you know your name, the month, year, where you are and why you are here. check your pupils, hand grips, dorsi/plantar flexion, pronator drift in your arms, bilateral arm and leg strength. make you touch your fingers to your nose, make you touch my finger and then your nose. and a few other higher neurological functions.make you smile, hold your eyes shut against resistance, shrug your shoulders, stick your tongue out. I would be checking all of your cranial nerves looking for weakness on one side or the other. and i would be doing this every 15 min for the first hour, every 30 for the second hour and then hourly after that until i am sure you are stable. Then every 2 hours for the rest of the time you are in the ICU.
9/20/2006 5:48:58 AM
that sounds cool, is that to check for when the sedatives wear off, or to check and see if there was any brain damage?
9/20/2006 1:31:56 PM
^^^^^ that's pretty cool[Edited on September 20, 2006 at 1:34 PM. Reason : ]

9/20/2006 3:02:27 PM

9/20/2006 3:30:47 PM
I have mine.
9/20/2006 3:32:47 PM
I'm getting an MRI next month and they told me I would get a free copy, so there's further confirmation for you.
9/20/2006 5:27:04 PM
i didn't get my MRI or my CAT scan pictures...bummerI agree with the comment about the noises, I hated when it got really quiet and then would start sounding like a jack hammer. I jumped every time even though I knew it was coming...

11/2/2006 1:51:07 PM
i spent 2 hours today in MRI watching a EKG monitor and Blood Pressures..............................i was .(this) close to calling a code. Fucking hate taking ICU patients to MRI. least she was intubated and on a ventilator because she likes to play this game called "lets randomly stop breathing"
11/3/2006 11:39:17 PM
^ where is your compassion? you can't spell healthcare without care...
11/4/2006 2:55:53 AM
I work at an MRI place and we give the films to anyone who asks for them or to patients of specific doctors and to all patients in workers comp cases. So YES it is totally kosher (at our place anways) to ask for copies.[Edited on November 4, 2006 at 3:19 AM. Reason : ]

When they sent me down to the film fault at UNC hospitals I had to tell them they were for another doctor. About to check them out now.
