giving more people guns in America is the only way to ensure that Canadian shootings stop taking place!
9/13/2006 5:36:37 PM
who said anything about giving people guns?
9/13/2006 5:40:20 PM
I was watching this earlier, and he only shot 4 people at that time, he must've just hitthe bonus stage afterwords. And, canada should respond to this by, giving more people guns? yah right, that murder rate there is probably not as large as all the gun deaths in canada over the last 40 years.

GREAT thread title. Rather than starting a decent Lounge thread with a title similar to "Gunman wounds 20 at Montreal college", *hint* it was the same title the article used, you come up with this crap.Anyways, I'd be curios to see developments as they occur. Post credible blogs/wikis on this as you find them.

9/13/2006 6:16:27 PM
^yeah, since that worked so well in stopping that guy from shooting 20 people. If someone around had been carrying, then probably only 2 or 3 people would have been shot, including the bad guy.

9/13/2006 6:29:59 PM
im always on campus
9/13/2006 6:44:28 PM
omg - we weren't allowed to have guns on campus?good to know NOWdodged that bulletPUN INTENDED!
9/13/2006 6:45:42 PM
I agree with you manI'd rather have a campus with 5000 responsible trained gun owners than a campus with 0 responsible gun owners and one looney with a gun killing peopleI can imagine that thats beyond the realm of thought for some people thoughbut then again, I'm not "afraid" of guns by themselves, some people areI honestly think everyone should at least be taught how to safely unload a firearm and basic gun safety... that would prevent alot of accidental shootings
9/13/2006 6:48:18 PM
^no shit. and along with the public carry laws they could have some kinda good saritan policy - ie loony dude starts shooting people in the school cafeteria, you stand up and shoot him in the face, emerge a hero instead of going to jail.
9/13/2006 8:32:36 PM
The solution to one or two people with a gun is obviously to put guns in everyone's hands.

guns on campuswhy didnt we think of this sooner
9/13/2006 9:04:49 PM
I love how anti-gunners think that if we outlaw guns, the criminals will just suddenly dissappear......Australia and Great Britain outlawed guns and crime sky-rocketed. But that won't happen here right guys?
9/13/2006 10:48:31 PM
So from that statement I can assume all you pro gunners want to keep abortion nice and legal?
9/13/2006 10:51:02 PM
^^It's not like people don't do it already.IMO, any campus which makes storage of guns illegal ought to at least provide some kind of secure storage area so that students (who are legally adults and often self-supported) don't have to give up their stuff.

what is odd is that tonight at work we went through rapid deployment training which teaches a 4 man diamond formation to enter schools who have an active shooter. Channel 17 news was there and it was just on tv. I was shown a few times and had my 5 minutes of fame. I had my red nc state hat.hmmm now that I look back seeing someone with a nc state hat on his head and a gun in his hand doesn't look too spiffy
9/13/2006 11:22:08 PM
canada has a lot of guns per capita

^ Yes, it's true. If Person A is in a situation that allows the use of lethal force in defense, bystander B can also use lethal force to defend Person A. Rape, death, or severe injury fall into the realm of lethal force.

9/14/2006 9:01:56 AM
i ain't afraid of guns.i AM afraid of rednecks with guns.
9/14/2006 9:15:14 AM
9/14/2006 9:15:49 AM
^that's the problem.There is a correlation b/w gun ownership + intelligence quotient. I'll give you a hint: it's a negative correlation.
9/14/2006 9:19:34 AM
9/14/2006 9:37:45 AM
^^HEY!This is TWW. Half the time, stuff people say in TL isn't serious. In CC, it's more like 90%. If you want to talk guns intelligently, go someplace like THR. College students are generally not the sort of people who can speak intelligently about any political issue.Anyway, I don't know that there's actually any kind of "Good Samaritan" clause written into law anywhere as described above. That said, if something like that happens and you turn out to be in the right, good luck finding any jury that won't acquit you of criminal charges.Given the rather high rate of gun ownership in the US (I want to say something like 25% of all households?), "gun owner -> stupid" is quite the generalization to try to back up.
9/14/2006 9:43:34 AM
i'm not implying gun owner --> stupidi'm saying stupid --> much more likely to own a gunand i'm not gonna bother trying to back it up, it's just a personal observation and in no way is meant to label every gun owner as stupid.
9/14/2006 9:46:51 AM
9/14/2006 9:46:56 AM
once again, I am NOT implying that owning gun means you're stupid.
9/14/2006 9:48:24 AM
how come "rednecks" with guns bother you more than thugs with illegal firearms that are actually trying to cause harm to society
9/14/2006 9:52:38 AM
actually they both worry me.but I think there are more rednecks at State/on this board than thugs.and since we're talking about guns on campus, it's the rednecks that i'm worried about here.
9/14/2006 9:54:36 AM
what I am getting at is this...people that have spent alot of money and gone through the necessary hassles of gun ownership should be the least of your worriesand yeah, there are a lot of necks on campus and many own guns... but they'd be the last people that I would expect some illegal gun crimes fromand they'd probably be some of the first people to come to your aid if you needed it
9/14/2006 10:00:26 AM
I'm not really talking about illegal guns here, and I'm not saying that it's necessarily a bad thing to let people own guns legally + carry them around.I'm just saying, for all the nice gentlemen that would come to my aid, there are also the ones that are too hot-headed for their own good and ready to jump the gun + fire it at the first chance they get. That's what is scary to me.
9/14/2006 10:25:25 AM
yeah... I feel you...and it's not the necks with guns that usually do thatit's the thugs and dudes trying to jack people behind buildingsI understand what you mean though
9/14/2006 11:29:30 AM
yes - this is great evidence as to why guns should be allowed on campus - which farm did you grow up on
