OrtizJeterMorneuDyeSantanayou pick!I am saying Santana, even though it is rare for a starting pitcher to win it. They would be way back without him. Jeter is next on the list.

Big fucking Papa finally deserves it and I don't even like the Sox.Dye or Morneau won't have a chance because one of them won't be in the postseason unless the Tigers keep fucking around.
9/12/2006 5:42:17 PM
How 'bout ARod?he sure does get paid enough dough to get MVP if not buy the damn award from someone else...Approx. 5.7 million every 37 games, damn...
9/12/2006 5:45:19 PM
MVP is Santana. No one has been more VALUABLE to his team than Santana. Without him, there's no way they are where they are especially with Liriano being out for the past month and a light hitting offense behind him.
9/12/2006 5:55:33 PM
Dye
9/12/2006 5:57:46 PM
^he would be my second pick (and probably the one to get the MVP since Santana will get the Cy Young and pitchers just dont generally get MVP)
9/12/2006 5:59:38 PM
Dye, but he won't get it. It's probably going to come down to Jeter/Ortiz because that's how it works.
9/12/2006 6:16:22 PM
dye
9/12/2006 6:17:19 PM
If there is a Yankee in the running, he shall win. That's the way the MVP works. Didn't you hear?NL: Howard followed by Beltran (yes I know I'm overlooking Pujols but their numbers are similar and Beltran is a better defender and baserunner -- plus it's for THIS YEAR).[Edited on September 12, 2006 at 6:18 PM. Reason : funny thing is Jeter isn't even the best SS in NYC this year.. ]
9/12/2006 6:17:51 PM
if the Bo Sox make/made the playoffs it would be Papi
9/12/2006 6:20:23 PM
Beltran doesn't deserve it IMO because both Howard and Pujols are way more important to their teams than Beltran is to the Mets. Even without Beltran, the Mets still run away with the East because the lineup is still stacked. Howard deserves it because he has carried the Phillies to a chance at the wild card.[Edited on September 12, 2006 at 6:31 PM. Reason : Oh yeah and I think Dye deserves MVP in AL (if not him then Johan)]
9/12/2006 6:31:11 PM
I agree. Howard does deserve it. He will get it too. What an amazing year.I don't agree about Pujols. They were a .500 while he was hurt. And they've been a .500 team since he got back. I just don't like holding a player back because his team is good. Beltran is having every bit as good a year as Pujols and he does it playing a gold glove CF and is a dynamic baserunner. Plus Beltran leads the majors in runs accounted for. Howard is freaking unreal though. He's looking at .315, 65 HRs, and 155 RBIs...[Edited on September 12, 2006 at 6:33 PM. Reason : unreal]

^^^^^^ Arod was the first Yankee to win the MVP since 1986 when Don Mattingly won it. Yankees really don't get much if any favoritism in terms of awards. And regarding your last comment, what TKE said. Jeter is definitely having the better year of the two.
9/12/2006 9:48:11 PM
heard somebody talking about Justin Morneau for MVP since he is a big hitter on a (probable) playoff teamI love the Twins but I disagree
9/13/2006 12:11:53 AM
Morneau no

although mvp's dont usually go 0fer in a crucial game

Jeter is having a better year than Reyes???Defensively, maybe. Not offensively. Reyes is the table-setter for that team. He's their MVP. Without him on the basepaths, Beltran and Delgado and Wright aren't even mentioned as MVP candidates. On top of that, he looks like he may steal 100 bases real soon. He freakin ran an inside the park home run in like 12 or 13 seconds! That's 4 seconds per base. AND HE'LL ONLY GET BETTER.
9/13/2006 1:37:48 AM
^ He's a leadoff hitter with a .350 OBP. Jeter's OBP is about .420, now who's doing a better job getting on base and setting the table for his team? Reyes is a very fast guy and can definitely steal a lot of bases when he gets on, but as a leadoff hitter, he should definitely be getting on base more. And on the 100 SBs statement, we're talking about this year, and unless he steals 43 bases in the next 19 games, that's not gonna happen.
9/13/2006 7:46:23 AM
Jeter
9/13/2006 8:18:45 AM
Jeter is right on Mauer's tail as far as AVG
9/13/2006 9:25:42 AM
i bet a dollar dye is on roids

^ I'll take Reyes over Jeter too. Jeter is clutch, but Reyes just changes the game with his speed. Reyes seems to score two runs every night.Back on the AL MVP talk, I don't know why people on here aren't giving more love to Morneau. His stats are sick and he's had to do that hitting in the #5 hole behind Michael Cuddyer (an okay hitter, but it's not Thome or Konerko). If I had a vote right now, I'd still take Dye though because I think he has been so consistent and has been the key player on the White Sox this year. Morneau is not necessarily anymore important to the Twins run than Santana, Liriano (before he went down) or Mauer.[Edited on September 13, 2006 at 12:17 PM. Reason : j]

I'd have to think the top 3 candidates are Dye, Morneau, and Jeter, and I think that who wins will probably be decided in large part by what they do here at the end of the season. All 3 are good candidates, and if one player is real hot for the rest of the season, they will most likely get most of the buzz. Morneau and Dye will both get plenty of publicity because they're in the middle of the race with the Tigers for either the AL Central division title or the wild card. Since the Red Sox have dropped out of the race, the Yankees aren't nearly as interesting a team now and so they won't have as much press as the Twins and White Sox. If Jeter's hitting streak continues for a while, or he stays close to Mauer and eventually overtakes him for the batting title lead, that can bring him plenty of press. I think that because all 3 candidates are ver good candidates, whatever is sticking in the minds of the voters when the season ends will play a big part in deciding who wins the MVP. As a Yankee fan, I want Jeter to win, but I can understand if Dye or Morneau wins, as both are having very good seasons. The race for the MVP should be interesting
9/13/2006 4:17:31 PM
Dye, Jeter, Morneau in that order
