Anyone here play competitively? I need to get some practice in for a huge national competition. Im trying to get some peeps together to go play sometime this week. The best place around here is adventure landing or so. If you're interested post here I guess.

if you're competing on a national level, you really ought to have a metal pad at home instead of playing at adventure landing. from a financial perspective as well as being a timesaver and way to get away from the annoyance of hundreds of little kids running around, it would be totally worth it.

Actually the timing for Perfects on the arcade machines is A LOT tighter than on the home versions. It varies from version to version but the hardcore players generally stick to the arcade. That's why the majority of AAA videos you see are on the arcade version. AAAing a song at home isn't that impressive to them.

If you were really hardcore you'd have your own stage to practice on.

Right, but on some versions you can adjust how tight the timing window is. And I'm sure you could do that on StepMania or one of the emulators I'd imagine serious people would have for practicing as many songs as possible.

there were some absolutely insane videos back in the days of the original competitions. When 2+ people as a team go it's unreal. I forget the one that was the national tournament where that kid in the orange shirt was moving so fast I could hardly follow his feet. He was dancing across both pads and using the bar just to stay standing.

Actually I believe the timing option in most DDR games adjusts for lag. For instance, I had to hit the arrow really early on the Xbox DDRs until I set the timing to -3.
