What could be the cause of this? I have over 60% signal at times but my browsers aren't able to load webpages. Netgear router, if it matters. thanks

Sounds to me like the culprit is your unfortunate inability to properly troubleshoot a problem even with the benefit of the manual at your fingertips.

went through all the loaded troubleshooting programsI have no manual for the router, it belongs to my neighbor, who gave me permission to use her signal until TW hooks me upI've connected to many routers with no problem. This connection was working for a couple days, but crapped out last night.thanks for your insight, though

i'm assuming you've asked them to reboot the router................[Edited on September 11, 2006 at 7:20 PM. Reason : ]

are you receiving an IP address from the router? if it's a netgear, it should be 192.168.x.x. a shot in the dark...

^^yeah i did that last nightthis is just something i have not experienced, actually being connected but not being able to load anything^not sure, but I did see something about a MAC address (i'm obviously not home now so I can't really check)[Edited on September 11, 2006 at 7:23 PM. Reason : ;]

1) they might be using mac filtering on the router...that would enable you to get a signal but you won't get an ip address and thus wouldnt be able to load webpages. do you use aim, does it work?2) go to start-run-and type cmd. in the dos(ish) window that comes up, type ipconfig and press enter. tell us the results.

I was going to say MAC filtering myself. Networks you can see but you can't touch (easily). The EASIEST thing to do would be to pick up a telephone and call your neighbor to help you fix the problem. Given you don't own the equipment, you can't be sure of its configuration. Anything we say will be a shot in the dark and pretty much useless (and less effective) than your neighbor helping you out.
