I got a ticket in 1998 (after the unc game in Charlotte) for 77 in a 55 (work zone) in salisbury on I85. Ok, fine they are working on the road to make it better. Yesterday there is an hour delay driving through Salisbury (heading east) waiting on "night work in progress" at 9:30am. Is 8 years standard for what I would call little progress on I85 through Rowan County? I am glad that money from my ticket went to good use and why do they need to do night work at 930am? Did anyone else sit through that shit and was therefore late for the game? How much longer is that shit going to take? Ok, I have road rage, sorry, but that was bullshit.

Obligatory [words] and sorry for the rant.

They have been working on that shit forever.

The new bridge is built and looks good for a homeless person to live under.

8+ years to build a bridge and widen a road, maybe 10 miles? I was just seeing dollar signs and that 33 percent tax on my income as i was moving 1 mph for an hour. Things like this make me wish we had toll roads in this state.

Actually speeding tickets do not pay for road work. Your ticket helped pay for the several new schools Rowan county has built/is building.

Rowan Co had to rebuild at least 10 bridges to widen that road

Remember, there can be pipes and culverts underneath that highway that you wouldn't recognize as a bridge when you went over them in your car. These are tricky things to widen. Sometimes they can just add onto it. Other times the culvert/pipe is so old they have to tear it out and put in another one (which involves stopping or redirecting traffic).

Plus if they widen it, they have to clear and grade the surrounding land to make room, plus build/remove/change existing drainage systems to allow for the expanded road.

There's also the surveying they had to do before hand and all that crap... Though 8 years is a long time. Maybe it's because it's Rowan County and not Wake County. They're spreading the project out so they don't dump a huge amount of money on it all at once, since that money is better spent on booming economic areas.

Or something...

Hmm...

This look like the project to you?

Toll roads =/= more taxes, you have to pay taxes, toll roads are optional - but it's worth an extra buck here and there to save a half hour when I want to get from the largest city in the state to the second largest. If you don't want to pay the toll, there are other roads that are acceptable, just longer.

And night work should be done at night, thus the meaning of the fucking word.

Agreed, I would pay a premium for use in the HOV lane, even if driving solo. There should be a way to pay to be allowed to speed or drive without traffic (I guess the occasional ticket is my fee) and toll roads might help out. HOV lanes are gay anyways, just charge revenue dollars for the priviledge and make more money. I propose 50.00/yr pass to drive in all HOV/left lanes - would save mad time. If you don't like it, don't fucking pay.

Yeah, they need tolls...

to restock the hundreds of millions of dollars they raided from the Highway Trust Fund.

That speed zone ticket is a mofo - they are serious about that shit. I have had two for more than that one (82 in a 55 and 79 in a 55) and the speed zone ticket was the most expensive by about double to get reduced to 9 over.

going south on 85 once I cross over that narrow ass bridge after that fucked up left exit for 29 I slow down to 65 instead of 78 or 80, because the SHP is mad serious about that segment from there to salisbury.

it's called revenue management - i got broken into (house) two weeks ago, had fingerprint evidence, and they charged their phone bill to my credit card (dur) - yet i called today, no word yet on who it is, all they have to do is get a warrant to search the phone company records. However, they won't waste a fuckin second to write you a ticket. REASON: no money is made on a crime with a victim for the police and county, except for the perpetrator. FUCK the police and FUCK the highway patrol

Yes, I realize that the police don't give a fuck about me, but shit, when you call the detective assigned to your case with the credit card # falsely charged, and the corporate security # for sprint (phone company charged) and they take two and a half weeks to find this shit out. How many others has this person robbed in the last 2.5 weeks? Fuck the police, all about money, not about victims.

Again, obligatory [words] and sorry for the rant.
