you contact them and work up an agreement, they release the domain lock to your registrar and you change the info associated with it.

I have been e-mailing this guy for about six months now and he is not responding. He either thinks my e-mails are spam or they are getting blocked by his filter. I really dont think anyone in their right mind would turn down money to sell a domain name that is being used for nothing as that one is.

I am thinking about FedExing him or sending him a registered letter that says I am interested in buying it. He should know I am serious then. I just want to be familiar with the process first.

the name associated with the account may be incorrect. Contact the registrar about contacting him for you. You might get lucky.

^^^The fucked up thing (although actually its pretty good for forgetful people) is that even after a domain expires, the registrar still usually leaves it locked and protected for 3-6 months to keep people from sniping expired domains.

Yea, contact the registrar and see if they can contact the owner. You'd be suprised though, I've tried buying a couple of domains that were being squatted on, only to be hit with RIDICULOUS monetary requests.

Luckily I don't think this is a squatter. It looks like the parent got the URL in his sons name and never did anything with it. (except post that wonderful story)

Anyone familiar with getting domain names that are no doubt being squatted? They should seriously open up the market and get rid of these people, but thats just my opinion.

^There's two kinds of squatting.

If someone buys a domain of a known presence/company/person with the express intention of reselling it to that individual/business, then you can buy back the name for fair market value (generally whatever amount of money they can show they spent on/for the domain/hosting)

If someone buys a domain just because they can see the future value in it, as a potential investment/resell opportunity, then there really isn't anything you can do about it other than paying whatever their asking price is.

i'm currently trying to get back a client's domain she let expire. It's her name, and she was the first to own it, and now a squatter has it.
we emailed within 2 weeks of losing it and am trying to use the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act as means to get it back without paying. The ACPA is supposed to protect you own name for your domain name.

In your particular case (brandonwilliamson), since it's pretty obvious a legitimate Brandon Williamson does own it now, you probably don't have any legal grounds - just cash $money to get it back. Or get another domin name with your middle initial or something
