that doesnt help me now...but thanks, and yes...first thing i buy is going to be a locking cap
9/10/2006 11:42:02 AM
what you need is +
9/10/2006 12:07:32 PM
Pretty much. Just suck out what you can, pour in fresh, maybe suck that out as well. Then fill it up. And clean off your car.
9/10/2006 12:36:05 PM
thanks for the serious help i appreciate itim just afraid that siphoning the gas out will not get all the chemical from the extinguisher out and the tank will need to be flushedit i can just siphon it outi will not have to pay to have it towedrent a carpay a mechanic
9/10/2006 2:04:12 PM
That is why I would recommend suck and fill a couple of times.
9/10/2006 2:16:13 PM
drop the tank and flush itlook online for instructions..
9/10/2006 2:19:17 PM
whats that actually do to a car when you shoot a fire extinguisher into the tank?
9/10/2006 3:37:02 PM
mythbusters failed to try that in their experiments
9/10/2006 3:40:55 PM
if it was a dry chemical extinguisher (you'll see white powdery residue around the tank filler neck), then nothing will happen. just run the car until it shuts off. replace the fuel filter and continue about your day.
9/10/2006 4:13:01 PM
^What Brian said. I don't think that shit dissolves in gas...and I'd just run and replace the fuel filter a time or two.
9/10/2006 5:08:06 PM
you sure it won't mess up the pump? with these in-tank pumps you can't just stick a filter between the tank and the fuel pump
9/10/2006 5:48:55 PM
i drive a 2001 monte carloand it has the powder around the neck so i guess its the driy chemical that underPSI was talking about
9/10/2006 6:00:09 PM
^^if it does, it's only going to get where it was already going a little sooner.
9/10/2006 8:21:23 PM
Do it yourself to a gallon of gas and put it in your lawnmower and see if it runs.

my mechanic says that if i want to avoid any long term damage i need to get it flushed b/c there is no telling what some of those chemicals might do when mixed with the gasolineanyone have a clue about how much it would cost to flush the tank
9/11/2006 11:29:33 AM
To drop it and clean it out is probably 2 hours labor. Think $70 average an hour.
9/11/2006 11:43:09 AM
mechanics have been telling me it would be close to 5+ hours of laborand it would cost b/w 700-1000.00 dollarsmy mech. back home said he could do it for around 300
9/11/2006 11:58:23 AM
what do you drive? 5 hours for a tank is a bit much
9/11/2006 1:51:22 PM
^ 01 Monte Carlo
9/11/2006 1:57:39 PM
when are we going to find the cockface who did this and stick a fire extinguisher up his ass?
9/11/2006 2:58:38 PM
Check to see if there is a drain plug on the bottom of the tank.If so, drain the gas. put some more in, slosh it around a bit and drain that, then fill it up.Oh, and don't smoke.
9/11/2006 3:20:56 PM
who'd you piss off?
9/11/2006 4:29:06 PM
9/11/2006 6:27:48 PM
i really wouldnt be worried about the fuel filter or pump because those are cheap compared to what the chemicals could do to things like seals, piston rings, cylinders, etc.safest bet is to flush it
9/11/2006 6:40:40 PM
9/11/2006 7:56:25 PM
