9/8/2006 1:08:22 PM
that case looks like a couple fifth-graders designed it after watching Star Trek: The Next Generation
9/8/2006 1:18:17 PM
so wait, am i reading that right - it includes the processor with that price???
9/8/2006 1:29:21 PM
I'd never buy ANYTHING from TigerDirect that has a rebate. They have the worst damn rebate shit service ever.Shit case, shit power supply, shit ram.
9/8/2006 2:13:13 PM
spend a little more for a better case, psu, and ram. you'll thank yourself.[Edited on September 8, 2006 at 2:22 PM. Reason : eh shitty motherboard is par for most cheap systems]
9/8/2006 2:21:29 PM
^^ all of what you just said is COMPLETELY subjective...i buy a lot of components from tiger direct's outlet store, much of it on rebate1.) i have NEVER had any trouble whatsoever with ANY of the 70+ rebates i've had through them...ever2.) "shit case" is again, subjective...i think it's hideous, but it's not like it's going to catch on fire or anything...i'm currently using their microfly mATX case (instead of going the XPC route), and i love the design, it's awesome...cost less than $50 with a 400w power supply3.) "shit power supply"...i can't see what brand it is, but i've used ultra power supplies (dirt cheap at TD) for years...i still have a 500w modular that's done fine for 3 years and a 400w that's done fine for 2...the 500w i got on rebate for $20 and the 400w i got on rebate for $0 (well, $0.34 for stamp back then)4.) "shit ram"...another retarded statement...what are you basing this on? do you have experience with ultra ram? i have a full 1gb that i got (again on rebate) at TD for $40, and i put a 1gb of ultra in my parents' computer for just slightly more than that...my ram is several years old, their's is a little over a year...give me a program as a benchmark and i'll tell you how my ram respondsStr8BacardiL, the majority of the opinions you'll get in this thread will be very similar to the ones you'd receive if you asked a porsche driver about driving a saturn...he'll turn up his nose and criticize the car, despite the fact that it does more than you'll ever need it toi run an intel 3.2ghz celeron D 351, with 1gb of ultra brand pc3200, an abit board, a 400w ultra power supply, a 250gb 3gb/s seagate hard drive, and an xfx geforce 6800 pci-e video card...all of this is in a mATX case with only a 120mm rear fan and an 80mm front fan...the entire set up cost right around $350 (most of it on rebate) and i've never had a bit of trouble with any of the componentsthe hottest i've ever seen the processor get is 48°C at peak usage...i can play battlefield and oblivion at full resolution without issue...those two are probably the most intensive applications i run, but photoshop and various bits of video editing also run without problemsin my opinion, for the price i think you might be able to get a case that looks better, a better power supply, and more ram...you would, however, have to wait until the right deals came along and deal with multiple rebates
9/8/2006 3:03:32 PM
I've been burned (almost literally) by buying shitty power supplies before. I'm leary of barebones kits with no-name psu's. If you spend a LITTLE more on case and psu it's worth it. Get a case you can stand looking at. The fact that it's an eyesore is something you'll have to live with otherwise. Scrimping on a PSU is risky. Get one that's either got a very good warranty or some good reviews behind it. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a computer with decent components. I'm not saying buy a $120 psu and $200 case.
9/8/2006 3:12:13 PM
good lawd thats ugly
9/8/2006 3:16:45 PM
i suppose i really may have just been lucky...here's what ultra says about their products:
9/8/2006 3:23:55 PM
you can get Pentium D, antec case + ps and a decent mobo for $300 from newegg. so you dont get the 512mb or burner but thats worth it for the higher quality case, power supply and mobo.
9/8/2006 3:26:51 PM
^^ But IS that an ultra even? I'm not talking bad about ultra power supplies as much as barebones kits where they don't even tell you what brand it is.
9/8/2006 3:31:27 PM
no, i don't think it's an ultra...probably a powmax or something...i was just trying to make the point that you can get quality components without spending a lot of money (in my fairly vast experience, anyway)...Noen loves to trash talk anything that isn't top of the line and/or name brand, so my comments were mainly targeted at him
9/8/2006 3:39:22 PM
I thought it was pretty widely accepted that TigerDirect was shit.
9/8/2006 3:44:19 PM
it's not, you were wrong
9/8/2006 3:55:24 PM
I think when my friend ordered it he went ahead and got an extra gig of ram and a 19" lcd.
9/8/2006 3:56:58 PM
9/8/2006 4:00:00 PM
why put a microATX motherboard in a full size case? no thanksthe motherboard has only AGP, dont get it. If you're going to buy a new machine, at least get something that supports PCI-e videowhat do you plan to do with this computer?IMO, you get what you pay for... complete crap
9/8/2006 4:02:09 PM
^hahhaa I didnt even check the motherboard, micro-atx AGP nice. HAAhahahah
9/8/2006 4:07:06 PM
^^^ i don't think you can make claims like those about bbb complaints, the banning of td from tech websites, etc without some sort of PROOF...if you can back up your bullshit with links, go ahead...i will happily bow to some actual evidence as to how td is so awful and admit pwnage...until then, it's your asshole opinion against my asshole opinion...and i daresay that no one on this forum is a bigger asshole than youas for the analogy of the neon and such, that's just dumb...reading comprehension, you moron! i said "that it does more than you'll ever need it to"...not that it would be as fast...it would be interesting to find out what Str8BacardiL is doing that would be so processor intensive that it would make a HUGE difference between the 840 and the 351...the 840 would indeed perform better than the 351, but i never claimed it wouldn'twhat quality components would YOU suggest that would only be a few "pennies" more? i'd much rather save a hundred or so dollars up front, and not have to worry about warranty because my stuff doesn't break rather than spend the extra 100 dollars for stuff that also won't break...see the point? i see no reason to pay out the nose for a good warranty when i can pay half the price for the same good warranty through another company...i've built more than 100 systems in my day, and supported them (no, not for a company, but on a personal basis) and the only problems i've EVER run into were products that were defective from day one...and i have never had a problem with tiger direct exchanges for genuinely defective components...maybe you're just not very good at what you do?[Edited on September 8, 2006 at 4:24 PM. Reason : spelling]
9/8/2006 4:23:54 PM
The case rules, the power supply (unless it's not the default one for that case) is absolute shit. Replace that asap.
9/8/2006 10:50:52 PM
^^Alright dipshit. Here we gohttp://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&strBCode=06330000&ComID=0633000027000500&ComName=TigerDirect.comhttp://www.ripoffreport.com/results.asp?q1=ALL&q4=&q6=&q3=&q2=&q7=&searchtype=0&submit2=Search%21&q5=tigerdirect&Search=Search44000 requests for their BBB status, 987 OFFICIAL complaints in a year and a half.http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/nis/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&strBCode=06330000&ComID=0633000023009202&ComName=OnRebate%2C+Inc%2EOnRebate.com (whom tiger uses for their rebates) also has 322 complaints for ~1000 requests in the last 36 months. Now compare that to say, newegg.com, one of the most reputable companies onlinehttp://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business/CompanyReportPage_Expository.aspx?CompanyID=13146135Triple AAA rating, 323 of their 369 complaints were resolved and accepted by the complaintant, which is almost 90%.Compare to tigerdirect, where more than 90% of THEIR complaints were not acknowledged resolved by the complaintant.http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/ConsumerActionGuide/DontGetRippedOffByaRebateDeal.aspxor how about the FTC ruling against tigerdirect in 1999 for their deceptive practices, not honoring warranties, bait and switch tactics etc?http://www.ftc.gov/os/1999/11/tigerdirectcmp.htmhttp://www.ftc.gov/os/1999/11/tigerdirect.do.htmHow about you shut the fuck up?as for the rest of your bullshit
9/9/2006 2:07:18 AM
haha, ownedhell, I'd pay $100 more just to avoid tiger direct. they're the greasy used car salesmen of the PC business. I'm surprised they don't sell your credit card # to make an extra buck.
9/9/2006 2:19:45 AM
oh snapi love TD on capital, won't order shit from their website if it has rebates tho...in fact i dont think ive ever ordered off their website. thats what newegg is for!
9/9/2006 5:00:40 PM
Yeah, I like their outlet store. It's kind of the biglots of computer hardware vendors.
9/9/2006 6:12:05 PM
An FYI on the outlet store too. Half of their employees are good people, the other half will lie to your fucking face to get you to make a purchase.I've had to threaten legal action against them on returns/exchanges because they tried to bait and switch me on their policies. I just won't shop there ever again.
9/9/2006 6:14:37 PM
Ah see, all I've ever bought there was stuff I already knew I wanted.
9/9/2006 6:17:07 PM
I bought a big screen TV there. I knew I wanted it when I walked in.They convinced me to get the 3 year warranty on it (which is actually pretty damn good). Took the TV home, it was defective (found out via the interweb it was a known issue with the model), took it back a day later. They proceed to tell me that you can only get your money back on the warranty for 24 HOURS, after which it's non-transferable and non-refundable. This after the saleswoman told me that it's returnable for the same 14 days the TV is. I called her on it, she says she never said that.Next they tell me they are going to charge me a 15% restocking fee. I tell them to kiss my ass, the product is a) defective and b) packed exactly as I recieved it. The real FUCKED UP thing about all of this, is all I wanted was TO EXCHANGE the tv for another one FROM THEM. I didn't even want the damn cash back. It took hours and literally going to the internet in store to show them NC consumer protection laws. Finally got it straightened out, come back the next week to use the credit on another tv. They tell me my store credit is only on the reciept and without it I have nothing (which I had, but it is illegal btw). Literally took me 4 hours in the store with 5 different employees just to USE the store credit on another purchase. All the while every fucking employee is trying to tell me I can't use it and I need to pay for it separately.
9/9/2006 6:38:11 PM
was their not a store manager you could just deal with that way you could get your way or get the fuck outa the store? that fucking sux.
9/9/2006 7:31:11 PM
nope, the store manager sided with the sales rep, it was seriously retarded.
9/10/2006 2:25:25 AM
9/10/2006 2:30:15 AM
Lets see...No name power supply: CheckVIA chipset: CheckRandom integrated graphics: CheckIt's not something I'd ever buy. Ignoring the sketch parts for a second, it'd be silly to dump that kind of money (even if it is only $300) after rebate into a computer that is already outdated and doesn't even have top of the line outdated parts. Also, I'd just like to mention how much I love it when someone tries to get uppity with Noen and winds up just completely crashing and burning.
9/10/2006 4:57:05 AM
here i was lead to beleive that sales managers were there to make their employees look like assholes. 75+ % of the time at most stores they'll act like their employees are unreasonable whining bitches and side with you.
9/10/2006 9:34:03 AM
bought a two flat panel monitors from them about a year agoStill waiting on my fucking refunds, but I'll probably never see them now that I've moved.
9/10/2006 11:23:06 AM
i would never buy anything for more than a couple hundred at TD on capital, esp if it had rebates.
9/10/2006 1:32:59 PM
