Did anyone see that orange karmann ghia parked near the laundry labs today? it was the first time i had seen it on campus. is this a professor's or what? i have always wanted one since i saw Kill Bill. I must admit when i walked by it i reached out and touched it....and had to walk to class with my chemistry book over my crouch...

I've seen it on campus before, last year, at least. They're realllly nice. I believe there is another person who has either a black or white one, and they usually park near the orange one. Don't know who they belong to, though. i've wanted one since I was 8, but my dad said no because they're too much trouble to take care of because of parts and everything. I know if it was mine, I would'nt be parking it near all that construction.

I dated a guy back in high school who had one that he restored. It was beautiful.
9/7/2006 5:38:05 PM
There was a green one that used to park up by Daniels. They're neat looking little cars.
9/7/2006 5:40:56 PM
SO, this is the first time I have heard of this car. What is so special about it?
9/7/2006 5:44:46 PM
and you call yourself a car guy...for shame
9/7/2006 5:46:47 PM
I've seen that orange one around all last year
9/7/2006 5:48:37 PM
my bro has a green one.they are nice
9/7/2006 5:55:01 PM
yeah, in all honesty, i have heard they are a bitch to keep up. but they sure do look nice. they are one of those cars that border on the edge of gaydom if a guy was to drive them. but then again, i tread that line like a tightrope which probably tells you why i want one so much.

The car is a little difficult to find, those into restoration are rather obsessive about it, and it's been in a couple of movies. The guy I dated was a movie geek and wanted one because you can see one, I believe, in Pretty In Pink. I think they're beautiful cars.
9/7/2006 6:29:14 PM
theyre really really gay, girly cars

My mom had one way back when. A pickup ran a red light and when they collided it basically stripped the roof off the Karmann. That orange one has been around for at least a year.
9/7/2006 8:05:07 PM
my ex wanted one after she saw uma driving one in kill bill II
9/7/2006 8:10:42 PM
i'd worry about your crotch insteadcute car though
9/7/2006 8:20:18 PM
i would love to build one on day, but its getting harder (& more expensive) to find examples that haven't rusted to shit
9/7/2006 11:20:21 PM
i would love to have onethe Karmann Ghia has always been one of my dream carsalong with early 70s Chevelle
9/8/2006 8:52:10 AM
my bro had a 70 chevelle with the ss package and the 454that thing hauled asstoo bad it got about 6 miles to the gallon
9/8/2006 8:53:48 AM

The orange one on campus is Dr. Hodgson's - IE prof. He restored it over a number of years...
9/8/2006 11:17:06 AM
I've seen the Orange KG parked over there, off and on, for at least 3 years.I would never have one, but they are definately interesting to look at.[Edited on September 8, 2006 at 11:31 AM. Reason : ]

i'd like to own one, but i'd rathre have a notchback
9/8/2006 11:37:13 AM
i used to have a '72 typeIII squareback. it was awesome. we fully restored the interior and had all the body work done and primere'd when we had to move and sell it.I'll forever be
9/8/2006 11:44:43 AM
im going to own an aircooled VW in the near future. how near I dont know, but it will happen. if its a beetle it might get a 5 speed conversion, although i am really thinking of a ghia or a type ii... that will be needing a powerglide.

9/8/2006 9:29:42 PM
I'd rather have a trabant.
9/8/2006 9:45:23 PM
I've always wanted one since I saw So I married an axe murderer
9/9/2006 11:47:56 AM

9/9/2006 1:30:01 PM
fastback + turbo flat 4 would be fun
9/9/2006 3:05:34 PM
what does featherless mean
9/9/2006 9:16:48 PM
back in my day at ncsu one of my bro's IE professors has one... don't know if it was orange.
9/9/2006 9:16:54 PM
For some reason I thought the pair that used to park by Daniels belonged to the Ozturks (ECE profs). I don't know where I got that idea though. Wasn't there a light blue one parked there fairly often too?
9/11/2006 1:08:59 AM
I think Dr. Borden in the CE dept. has several, and drives them to campus. They are all restored.
9/11/2006 7:35:33 AM
An old roommate of mine had one. They're cool little cars. A bit tight if you're 6'2" though.I've always wanted to restore a Thing sometime.
9/11/2006 6:54:10 PM
i've always loved karmann ghia's.... but i'm 6' 4 and like ^ said, it wouldn't work.for another movie reference, the guy in love potion #9 drove a dark green one.
9/11/2006 8:24:10 PM
^^You'd love this one:That would be me in the middle, my old roommate from 1993-1994 on the left, and the fella that sold him the Thing on the right. It's damn near perfect condition. Cost him 7500 dolla.
9/11/2006 10:11:40 PM
^damn Dan, you look so much thinner then.
9/11/2006 10:29:15 PM
Sadly, it's because I was about 40 lbs thinner then.
