I searched old threads and could not bttt. But I am requesting additional cruise information/recommendations. Any consistent good deals?I haven't ever booked a cruise on my own but I want to plan a cruise for this December. Looking to spend 5-7 days. Seeking a fun, younger crowd and lots of drinking! No location has been planned yet. Any ideal places for something in December?Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

i would go to carnival's site, i've been on 3 carnival cruises and have loved each of themyou can pick up cruise books at any travel agency (go into AAA and just ask for a carnival book or norwegian book)

In the spring you can begin taking cruises right out of Norfolk VA, i think the website is http://www.cruisenorfolk.com

Dawn Dorr is a travel agent out of fuquay i believe. She found us the cheapest spring break cruise that we could find and it left out of charelston which saved us on gas.

How's the weather generally in the crusing regions during winter months?
9/7/2006 2:42:56 PM
I changed my mind on the duration...4-5 days fits better in my budget

if you go to the caribbean, it will still be warm (especially the closer you get to the equator). A cruise leaving out of charleston may be a little chilly. Something out of puerto rico would be nice.[Edited on September 7, 2006 at 3:36 PM. Reason : sp.]

Hope you like the Norwalk Virus

the weather wont be super hot, but it varies heavily depending where you go. my mom and sister went out in january and it was kind of chilly.that said, i vouch for carnival (took western carribean cruise over the summer and it was great).

http://www.easycruise.comThey have been running crazy deals for that time. It's the same people that run easyjet in Europe.

Also, has anyone preferred or has had better luck using travel agencies/agents?
9/8/2006 10:49:45 AM
I'm guessing you are not a member of AAAagents take all the hassle out of setting up the cruise (and since I was a member of AAA, I didn't pay anything extra and the agent gave us some goodies for using her)

i went on a 7 day cruise back in April on Carnival Glory. I loved it. The nice thing about the 7 day cruises is you are on the biggest boats. the shorter cruises get you a smaller boat. We went to the travel agency at Triangle town center and the lady in there got us the best deal we had seen, even anywhere on the internet plus it was someone local to talk to. Left out of Port Canaveral which is about a 8 hour drive, then parking cost about $80 for the week. We paid $1500 for 2 tickets, 7 days. best time of my life.

Carnival Cruises are the best for a lower cost, younger age group, and lots of drinking.
9/8/2006 9:27:58 PM
i think carnival caters to the younger drunker crowd, at least thats what i heard. i went on royal caribbean a few months ago and it was great... but there werent as many young drunk people as i thought there would be. hahhaa... more families and some older people and all that stuff. but it was still a really awesome time. i think i made a thread in the lounge about it... search for royal caribbean threads by me or something, a lot of people gave input
9/8/2006 9:28:22 PM
hmmm, I would like to know who it was that edited my wonderful posts
9/8/2006 10:19:59 PM
just got back from san juan today on the carnival destinyit was fun, but was more family. apparently, the shorter the cruise, the younger the crowd (we went on an 8 day)
9/11/2006 12:01:57 AM
it seems that general consensus is that it is better to go through a travel agent...i haven't heard any reason not to. i assumed it would have cost a lot more.where to start when looking for travel agents?

GAP Adventures, Oceania and Regent Seven Seas allow all passengers 18 and older to consume any type of alcoholic beverage they choose. Celebrity and Royal Caribbean offer beer and wine to passengers over 18, and all types of alcohol to passengers 21 or older. Carnival, Clipper, Costa, Cruise West, Crystal, Cunard, Delta Queen, Discovery World Cruises, Disney, Great American River Journeys, Holland America, MSC Cruises, Norwegian, Orient, Peter Deilmann, Princess, Seabourn, SeaDream, Silversea, Star Clippers, Uniworld, Viking River Cruises, Windjammer and Windstar require passengers to be at least 21 to consume any type of alcohol.

^i hope you just copy and pasted that...otherwise, that was a lot of info that most likely would not affect us since we both are in early twenties
9/20/2006 9:21:59 PM
yea pasted....I was happy.....I had only been on carnival and they were anal....trying to go on one without parents and apparently I can go on Royal Carribbean next summer and take gf who will be 20 and we can both drink......she would only be able to drink beer and wine....
9/20/2006 9:34:45 PM
Carnival if you want lots of partying. Royal Caribbean is a little classier. Your gf can drink at different countries if their legal drinking age is different.
9/20/2006 9:36:55 PM
Yea, but wanna be able to do it on the boat.......but still I could buy it, they dont care....was more of a matter of being able to go without a 25 yo in the room like carnival does.
9/20/2006 11:23:51 PM
They don't really check your rooms. Your id card will have the age info if you want to buy some at a bar. Also I thought all cruiseships needed someone 25 or older for anyone under 21?
9/21/2006 12:30:33 AM
damn, this is going to be an expensive tripfactor in all the extra costs such as airfare, drinks, excursions, misc & etc...but well worth the $ i hear
10/2/2006 11:33:51 AM
If you want drinking and lots of college age people go Carnival. Most others are classier, but Carnival is all about partying and getting you to drop cash at the bar.
10/2/2006 7:36:03 PM
I'm pretty sure I will be going with either Carnival or Royal Caribbean.
10/2/2006 10:22:16 PM
We booked our through Expedia. It cost us about 2700 for everything on the boat, we had at least one excursion and sometimes two to three for every stop though. Maybe 400 for things we bought on the different ports.
