anyone else excited?
9/4/2006 2:29:47 PM
Yes.
9/4/2006 2:30:12 PM
I always thought that they were overrated. But then it became cool to cite Brian Wilson as one of your musical influences.
9/4/2006 2:36:54 PM
^they? the beach boys? maybe. but brian wilson? no.
9/4/2006 2:38:01 PM
the beach boys aren't overratedbrian wilson himself is a little overratedand a lil crazy
9/4/2006 2:39:21 PM
i'm excited.
9/4/2006 2:40:52 PM
9/4/2006 2:51:06 PM
umm... he's not a little crazyhe's crazy, and thankfully stableyou're not allowed to make stuff that quality without being crazy
9/4/2006 3:01:32 PM
overrated? are you kidding me?pet sounds is one of the most important albums in music history.although it hurts to see brian wilson in his present state (last year around christmas time he had a life performance that was just dreadful)
9/4/2006 3:03:48 PM
9/4/2006 3:12:26 PM
no waymore than anything it was the drugs, mental issues, and an abusive father
9/4/2006 3:18:25 PM
well it wasn't so much the age that looked to be the factor, but the anxiety he exhibited through the song. he looked miserable and nervous up there.
9/4/2006 3:19:02 PM
i'm listening to the vinyl right now. it's incredible. really fills the room.
9/4/2006 3:50:10 PM
Who reissued it? I've got Simply Vinyl reissues of Pet Sounds and Wild Honey (highly underrated) that I got like a year before Schoolkids moved.
9/4/2006 4:09:03 PM
I popped 2 boners listening to the album
9/4/2006 4:32:37 PM
wild honey is awesome
9/4/2006 4:42:28 PM
it's a capitol/emi deluxe edition. it has two records: the original mono (yellow vinyl) and stereo (green vinyl).
9/4/2006 4:42:47 PM
The stereo mix fucking sucks. All the boom is gone. No thank you.
9/4/2006 4:45:55 PM
oh hell....here goes another "one of the most influential albums in the history of music" bullshit discussions
9/4/2006 5:06:26 PM
^not at all. it's just a really great album (the greatest, in my opinion) and i could never find a copy on vinyl and here it is...new. it doesn't matter who it influenced and who thinks what. it is what it is.
9/4/2006 5:17:10 PM
i found a copy on vinyl at american way one time. unfortunately it was nearly broken in half because the HORRIBLE scratches. i went from being horribly excited by a great find to dejected in about ten seconds.
9/4/2006 7:04:48 PM
This would be exciting if I had one of those, you know... uh... oh, right, record players.I suppose I could use it as a place mat, but that'd be extremely rude for such a great album.[Edited on September 4, 2006 at 10:47 PM. Reason : .]
9/4/2006 10:46:46 PM
what exactly is different/new in this reissue?
9/5/2006 2:28:29 AM
for one: it's easily availible in pristine condition.
9/5/2006 2:57:20 AM
Jesus Christ.I had no idea that Glen Campbell was in the Beach Boys.
9/5/2006 3:22:47 AM
^ wow
9/5/2006 4:24:35 AM
^^ He was only in the touring group. My favorite non-traditional Beach Boy is Blondie Chaplin, who did the lead vocal on "Sail On, Sailor" and "Funky Pretty."
9/5/2006 10:41:08 AM
my stereo disc has a little background fuzz. is that from being reprocessed for stereo? and yeah, the mono mix has more "boom" but i like the separation of sound that the stereo mix offers. i think "you still believe in me" suffers most from the stereo mix, as the second bass and backing vocal are completely gone. whatever.
9/5/2006 3:11:11 PM
I only have the mono mix on vinyl, but the stereo mix that was put on the original CD reissue is pristine, whereas the original recording still has tape hiss, talking in the background, etc.My problem with the original stereo mix is that it has no warmth whatsoever. It's been sucked of its life. After the big kick drum on "Wouldn't it Be Nice," it's all downhill. With Brian being deaf in one ear, it's impossible for him to do any adequate stereo mixing, and I honestly feel like the decisions made during the stereo sessions, while being "approved" by Brian, don't really reflect the ideal state of the music in a non-mono mix.

FLOSSING
9/5/2006 3:34:45 PM
Proof of concept there, folks. Flossing is dead important, but it's not all that entertaining, is it?
9/5/2006 3:35:39 PM
i floss until i bleedwhich would be everytime per year
9/5/2006 3:41:29 PM
FroshKiller's Postulate: The more "important" the work, the less entertaining.yepfor example, i really cant get into "Kind of Blue"it's just not my thing

BLASPHEMY
9/5/2006 3:52:15 PM
How could anyone not find all those 5 part harmonies entertaining?
9/5/2006 3:52:58 PM
sgt. pepper's and pet sounds? not entertaining? weird. i've never heard that.maybe there's no relationship at all, much less an inverse relationship.
9/5/2006 3:55:13 PM
i've never cared for sgt pepper's. i thought abbey road was a lot more awesome.
9/5/2006 3:57:28 PM
by "important" i mean to meand by "music history" i mean music history as *I* see it.now if you'll excuse me, i've backpedalled me way out of this thread.
9/5/2006 5:45:18 PM
Frosh is right to a certain extent. When I get an itch to listen to Pet Sounds, I listen to it all the way through three or four times, pick out the brilliant little things I often forget about, then put it back in the crate for a few months. It's not the kind of thing I want to hear every day, though that might just be because of the emotions it stirs up.
9/6/2006 12:57:37 AM
So where can you buy this? I've looked online a bit but no luck so far.
9/6/2006 3:03:17 AM
schoolkids has it for $25.
