I have a 13" tv/vcr combo and a dvd player that both would not turn on after the lighting storm a few nights ago. They were in different rooms connected to different surge protectors. Nothing else on either surge protector was damaged. On the tv all the lights on the front are on; rec, prog. timer, and on timer, but the tv itself will not turn on. The dvd player will not display any lights. Is there any hope of fixing either of these? Thanks.

With the dvd player it might just be a fuse or breaker. Open the thing up with a screwdriver and look or smell around. A blown fuse should be visibly obvious (if you know what a fuse looks like.) You can buy a replacement at a radioshack or you may have to order one, but most are easily replaced. I say smell around too because if you smell something burnt or toast-like coming from anything but a fuse, then it's probably not worth bothering with.

With the tv it sounds like you're probably a little more out of luck. A 13 inch tube tv with a vcr in it isn't worth fixing anyways.
