yes they are definately going to fall off and I think their intentions are to rest their players and finish out the season without injury...however, a junk balling slob like Wellls is no big loss and is certainly not one of their bet pitchers

^^ that's funny... only because Pedro has absolutely OWNED the Yankees the last 2 years.. 3-0 w/ a sub-2.00 ERA..[Edited on September 1, 2006 at 2:17 PM. Reason : The Mets are the Big Eunuch's Daddy's though.. (well so is the rest of baseball)]

David Wells was not one of their best pitchers. Hell he hardly even pitched at all this year. I do think the Red Sox pretty much realize they flushed the season down the toilet with that 5 game sweep to the Yanks, but the injuries are killing them.Losing Varitek might be the worst injury of the season for any team if you look at the team performance after he went down and the record while he was playing.

^I agree, but its not to say that the Yankees haven't been plagued by injuries as well.Maybe not if you don't look at the whole season, but in Well's last 4 starts his ERA has been around 2.6, so thats not too shabby.

^^ No doubt that the Yankees have been ravaged too. Torre does such as great job getting contributions out of guys like Melky Cabrera, Andy Philips, Aaron Guiel, etc it is amazing. Varitek was like Jeter though and it'd be interesting to see how NY did if they lost him. I didn't realize Wells had been pitching so well. Maybe Theo was tired of some of his actions or something. Either way the Sox are done and the Yanks & Mets are rolling.

Boomer wasn't happy and now that the Sox are slumping dealing him now is a good thing. He may have been pitching better but he is still an injury risk. Saying he was our best pitcher is like saying that Jaret Wright is the Yanks best pitcher, Wells can give you 6 innings but thats about it. Yes the Yankees have had injuries to players but they came at the beginning of the season. Losing have the team to various ailments is devastating for any team.

he hasn't pitched well.... Pick any Yankee starter and I guarantee you can find 4 games with under a 2.6era

^^no one said he is the best. I said one of.And who cares if they injuries came at the beginning of the season, we've had 2 100RBI outfielders out almost all season.
