So Kevin's brother gave us "super fleas." We used the powder, but I just woke up with bites and want the little bastards to die. Anyone have experience with flea bombs? I'll evacuate myself and the chins for the weekend, but I'm worried about it killing my fish...

yeah the fish need to be super covered (sealed in for a bit) or taken out... you need to make sure you turn off the power before you set it offcover the computer / moniter / tv as welli'd wash your bed stuff afterward....usually you want to bomb a place with nothing in it, but you may not be so lucky....good luck

i couldnt bomb because of my fish and reptilesmy vet gave (sold) me a carpet treatment that was really effective. but the flea problem in my house wasnt that bad. a rescue brought them in and i treated the same week

^My boyfriend. I bought some of the Hartz powder and have been using that like a freak. I think they traveled from the couch to my bed b/c of a blanket I have, so all linens are being washed in high heat and all now. Just powdered again. I can't use the flea bombs, don't wanna cover everything and I can't move the reef tank.Oh, and Arab can I keep the vaccum a bit for the fleas?[Edited on September 1, 2006 at 11:13 AM. Reason : meh]

hmmmmmyou could use some spare sheets for the bed and computer deskalso make sure you unplug everything....you will still have to move the tank somehow.... maybe just inch it into the living room?[Edited on September 1, 2006 at 11:04 AM. Reason : 3]

^It is in the living room. As is the flea couch. I put it where Chris' stupid table was.
9/1/2006 11:15:34 AM
lolhmmmmm i dunno then.... unless you can get it out the back door
9/1/2006 11:17:33 AM
^We could move it into a far away bathroom and cover it and close the door, but we can't unplug the tank...Plus now I'm concerned the chins might get/have fleas. I might take them in to the vet for a dose of revolution just incase, and then they'll kill the fleas for me.

all you have to do is cover up your fish tank and filter if it sticks off and any food that is uncovered laying out and set it off

scott's cat caused my cat to have fleas too. anyways - spazzy had fleas last year and anson got some carpet spray from some pet store in dc that worked really well.[Edited on September 1, 2006 at 1:57 PM. Reason : bleh]

i drop flea bombs on vietnams

a good flea powder won't kill adult fleas right away, it just kills the larvae and the eggs...as far as the adults, it just pisses them off and they bite like crazy for a few days and eventually die...if the powder is orthoboric acid then it will work, just takes a few daysa flea bomb will kill all the adults though, but not the unhatched eggs in the carpet, so a bomb/powder combo is the best bet[Edited on September 1, 2006 at 6:33 PM. in order to actually get rid of them (believe me, we bombed several times), take your pet to the vet while you are bombing and get it flea dipped. Go home, vacuum, whatever, let the pet in, and you should be flea free
9/1/2006 6:44:30 PM
^not a bad idea...also get a free preventative while at the Vet, Frontline or Advantage. As any remaining fleas bite the cat, they'll die! I had a minor flea problem in my room a few years back, and I just let my "Frontlined" dog int he dog 20 mins before me every night for a week, and the fleas bit him and it took care of my problem

flooding your house with pesticides is a last resort

^Durr. I have pets. Anywho, visited the vet and picked up EctoKyl IGR. It's AMAZING. Kills everything. Lasts 120 days. Just evacuated the chins to grandma's for a couple weeks and covered the reef tank.

The vet at Banfield recommended a website to me... fleabusters I think ... You can call the Banfield in Cary to find out for sure. Anyways, they will come out and treat your house for you. Their work is under warranty, so they will come back and treat again if the problem is not taken care of...
