i cant wait until we see some "dramatic" rescuing.....they had one up here in NY with the flooding 2 months ago....three people stuck in a truck....helicopter was rescuing them(of course TV one was filiming) They all got to the rope but then a wave came out of nowhere and all three drowned.....was sad.

You really have to expect this. After Katrina you are going to have Gov. Easley declaring a state of emergency, issuing evacuation orders, and sending the rescue helicopters in every time there is a downgraded tropical storm headed to NC. After a year or so of this everyone will forget about being overly cautious and move into the realm of not being concerned enough just in time for the big one to hit.

CNN had the map this morning that showed this area and had us in the "at least 3 inches of rain" category saying that some areas will get "10+ inches."

3"... or maybe 10"...

Man, I could be a weatherman at this point. "We will get trace amounts or biblical proportions... somewhere in there."

Anyone could be a weather man...just go to NOAA.gov, learn to read the maps, and you're money. The government does all the hard work, you just have to look pretty on TV.

In other news, I'm going to be driving through the storm on my way to the beach tomorrow

trailer park trash...can you say HELP FEMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote :
"Swiftwater team evacuates trailer park
STEVE LYTTLE
slyttle@charlotteobserver.com
The Charlotte Fire Department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team was supposed to be on the road this morning to eastern North Carolina, to deal with possible flooding from approaching Tropical Storm Ernesto.

Instead, the flooding came to the Charlotte firefighters.

Members of the rescue team used inflatable rubber boats and old-fashioned foot power this morning to rescue more than 100 people trapped by rising waters at a mobile home park in southwest Charlotte.

“We have safely evacuated more than 100 people,” said Charlotte fire Capt. Rob Brisley. “There were no injuries.”

Shortly before 7 a.m., several residents at the Arrowood Mobile Home and Trailer Park on John Price Road, off South Tryon Street, called police. They said the nearby Steele Creek was flooding its banks, and water had covered John Price Road.

The fire department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team had planned to leave Charlotte at 9 a.m. for deployment today in Kinston.

Instead, they were dispatched to southwest Charlotte for a rescue operation.

“Some of the people were rescued in inflatable boats, which got the people across the flooded road,” Brisley said. “In other cases, firefighters carried them through the water.”

Two Charlotte Area Transit System buses are at the scene, providing temporary housing for the evacuees.

The American Red Cross has arrived at the site and is preparing to help the evacuees."

all that for a flooded road....

yeah...

it probably wasn't as bad as they thought, but you don't try and find out how bad a flooded road is

the wind speed doesnt have much to do with the rain. some of the heaviest rain storms have been tropical storms (ts allison?i think comes to my mind first) movement has alot to do with that but not even completely. it is still unkown how to tell how much rain a storm will dump but a tropical storm can dump more than some cat4. it all depends.

So, did Raleigh even get 2" of rain out of this event? WRAL's historical data says 0.54" for yesterday and 0.79" so far today.

I'm in Va Beach and we are getting dumped on. Winds are sustained in the low 40s with gust in the low 60s. I saw a bunch of flash flooding on my way in to work. The parking lot at my townhouse was above my ankles this morning...my dog loved it...she dove it after every stick that floated by.

The worst part isn't even here yet...we still have another half day to see how bad it gets.

I'm in Myrtle Beach and all we got was some wind and some rain. I think my power flickered a few times.

^^ Yeah, I was surprised as well, but according to this:

http://tinyurl.com/k9vla

it's how much we got. I don't know where they take their measurements. That site reported only 5.5 inches during Alberto (06/14/06), but most everyone claims it actually rained 8 inches.
