I may be relocating to this area. I've never been there but I love the outdoors and have spent all 26 of my years living in NC. A job, a wife, and all of those situations that complicate these decisions are not obstacles for me... I guess you could call it a window of opportunity.

Opinions, comments, and insider knowledge of the area are all welcomed.

What sort of info are you looking for? I've been there a couple of times in the past year, and my boyfriend is a grad student at University of Colorado... so I know a little bit.

I live in Littleton right now, near the foothills of the Rockies. Just moved from Raleigh 2 weeks ago. Downtown Denver is the best place to live if you are making $$$, nice loft apts. are between $1200-1500. Boulder is beautiful, just make sure to live at least 10 minutes from UC to get away from all the students/crappy places to live.

I moved to Fort Collins, CO (45 minutes north of denver) a little over a year ago and i love it here. I've only been to Denver a handful of times (most of which were passing through to go to the mountains) but every time i've spent there has been great. It has a pretty cool nightlife as long as you know which parts of town to stay away from. Since you are really into the outdoors, you'll love it there. You are only 45 minutes from Fort Collins which is great for camping, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, etc. And if you drive about an hour west of Denver you are at some of the best skiing/snowboarding mountains in the country. If you are a big music fan, Red Rocks is right outside Denver. If you move to Boulder i definitely would recommend living far away from CU campus. The town itself it really neat and the views are spectacular, but the people suck. It's all a bunch of rich, wannabe hippies who drive around BMWs that their parents bought them. Everyone i've met from there is stuck up and fake. I also go to CU's rival school...... but that's besides the point.
Either way, if you love the outdoors, you can never go wrong with living in CO. It has been the best decision of my life to move out here. And if you ever get sick of Denver, you are only an hour or so away from all kinds of national parks and forests. Hope that helps!

Thanks, that's really good info! I was wondering what areas around UC would be like so that was helpful. I've also learned that the cost of living in Boulder is rated at 1% less than RDU.

I'm thinking about flying out there to visit it before jumping in with both feet.

^^^ Every thursday during the summer everyone in Fort Collins bikes to New Belgium (The brewery that makes Fat Tire) for a "bike in movie." They play $2 movies on their lawn and have kegs of all their brews set up. As soon as the movie is over about 300+ bikers (most of which on crazy custom bikes) flood the streets. But if you stick around after everyone leaves, the brewery lets you finish off their kegs. In september New Belgium also has the "Tour de Fat." Where everyone gets wasted on all the local microbrews and bikes around downtown in crazy costumes.

I liked boulder when i visited, great microbreweries in the area. Good luck trying to find a hooker though, I spent 3 hours looking and ended up with some chick named Russel...
