What do you all think of that new block S made out of the white bricks on the brickyard close to the library? I think it's sweet. Did

they take out the diamond logo? I hope not. Even though it's an old logo, we should still remember it. It's part of the history of our

school. I know someone's going to mention that it looks like the Stanford, Michigan State, Syracuse block S, but who cares.

We've used a block S logo for a long time. Many of our football teams of the past used it. We even have an academic building

with a block S logo built into it.

well chembob mentioned "words" so i tried to double space it to make it look better and easier to read, which is usually what i do when someone says "words" on here. it looks fine on my screen, but i know that it might not look as good on some screens.

The diamond S sucked. That's why everyone wanted it reverted back to the original block S to begin with.

really, i just remember seeing the worker finishing it up and cleaning it, unless they were just laying new bricks to replace the old ones. i've walked by the library many a time and never saw it before last week.

I watched them make it over the summer.

It's alright, I guess, if you enjoy staring at the brickyard or something.

i think the diamond has only been around since 2000

before that it was the block "S"

the new one is a little stylized but still essentually the same. I've always hated the diamond anyway.

Theres a pic in the baseball pictures exhibit that has a team from the twenties using a form of the block S. I like the block S from a style standpoint but the diamond always had a neat feel to it

The block S is the first logo of this university

Go to Holladay Hall and you'll see the Block S above the entrances.

The original was the block. I think it was changed in the mid to late 90's to the diamond. It was definitely the diamond by '98, and I'm thinking it had only happened a year or two before that at most. Then after a 5 year run or so they switched to a slightly different version of the block logo again.

actually the diamond logo was designed by Dick Sheridan and he had us change over to it when he started in 86 i believe. it was suppossed to represent the tougness of the team. the team was as tough as a diamond. we continued to use it up until Chuck Amato got here in 2000. he had it changed back to the block S, and had it redesigned to what it is now.

I must admit that putting E=mc^2 in bricks was the worst idea ever. No matter how much improvement they make on it, the concept behind it is flawed.

It has this amateurish air like, "Oooooh, smart kids go to college to learn smart things like E=mc^2, whatever that is...."

I always wanted to laugh everytime I walked over it.

Well I mean if you're going to permanently mark our university with cliché factoids, we should be more equitable. Why not put, "In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue," and the formula for photosynthesis elsewhere on campus?

I swear it's just the most random thing ever to put down in bricks. It is really funny to the point of almost being insulting. It's the kind of crap kids write on the bulletin boards in middle school to show how serious they are about education.
