My main kitchen knife is getting really dull and it's dangerous! However I don't have a sharpener and I don't want to buy one.I figure with all the gun & knife nuts on TWW, there's gotta be someone who has a sharpener that's appropriate for a kitchen knife. If you sharpen the knife for me I will be eternally grateful! Let me know if anybody can help, thanks! btw the knife is one of these (same style but not that brand) ]

Only take it to a grocery store or harware store for sharpening as a last resort. They use electriv "V" grinders that will chew through your knife over time (takes off way more than you need). Your best bet is a professional knife sharpener. Try Beck's Cutlery in Cary (http://www.beckscutlery.com/). They have a pro service and itsw pretty cheap (a couple bucks for each knife). I have a Wusthof Classic 10" Chef's Knife and Wusthof Classic 7" Santoku (hollow ground) and they do a fantastic job with them. Have taken a scalloped bread, paring, and carving knife there too.Oh and if a hollow-ground santoku is what you have then you definitely need to be careful about how much of your knife is worn away with each sharpening.[Edited on August 26, 2006 at 10:39 PM. Well, this last time I had the 10" Chef's Knife (which costs a tad more because of the size), the scalloped edge bread knife, and the 7" santoku (like yours) sharpened and all together it was about $7 after task. $2 per knife and then like $2.75 for the larger chef knife.

The question you need to ask yourself, are the knives I currently own worth taking to a professional sharpener? Or, should I stick it out with a steel for a year or two and buy a couple of nicer knives that are worth the money to be professionally sharpened?

There's a place in McGregor village that is a specialty knife store that sharpens for $15 I think.Sorry, can't remember the name of it.

A sharpening stone at a hardware store is like $6. They work great.

Most people don't know how to correctly use a sharpening stone and end up doing more harm than good.

well I dropped it off at Beck's this morning, he said it would be $2.75 thanks again for the recommendation!
