So...I found out today that for one of my classes I have a required weekend field trip in october....and I have a dog and 2 cats. The cats I can leave in my apartment with self-feeders for a couple days, but my dog has epilepsy and has to have pills twice a day and I would feel more comfortable if she were some place where people are around (the majority of the time) and could handle a situation if one were to arise with her seizures....

so...anyone have any recommendations?

Am I the only one that thought this thread had something to do with dogs on a surfboard?

see if your vet boards. it'd be easier on your dog since she knows the place and the staff knows her.

The pet hotel at Petsmart... Excellent! They have vets there in the building as well...

i can offer no help on a specific boarding place as i live on the other coast. just make sure your dog is up on its shots ahead of time. when i boarded my dog last month they wanted rabies, parvo, distemper and bordetella.

If your dog has that type of medical condition, PLEASE board at a Vet hospital! Way too often do we have animals come in in really bad shape due to the owners hiring the neighbor's teenager who doesnt' understand the importance of medication. I would reccomend boarding at your regular vet, since they will better understand your dogs medical condition than anyone else. And yes, make sure you are up to date on DHPP, bordetella, and Rabies vaccines as any boarding facility should require them (if not, dont' board there!)

well see...my regular is back home in Virginia. it's where i've worked for 6 years and they know her the best...she's up to date on all her shots including bordetella, so i guess i need to find a good vet around raleigh that'll board....

they could probably give suggestions or maybe even call a place for you to specify the exact conditions.

It's 18 bucks a night including meds as Boulevard Animal Hospital on Western Blvd. Too bad my favorite vet of all time no longer works there.

this might be a good opportunity to find a "Raleigh" Vet that can hold your dogs records so when you're down here, in case of an emergency, they will have them. I would suggest asking to see boarding facilities first and go from there. If you feel that they take good care of the animals in boarding, then it's a good chance that they'll take care of them in the exam room. Make sure to ask how many walks per day, who comes by on weekends (when they're closed), etc. Also make sure to note how clean the kennel is (which can be the dirtiest part of the hospital!). I work at Parkway Animal Hospital in Cary and we're definitely not the cheapest (far from it in some areas!), but we take care of the animals better than any other place I've worked at!

i take my pups to Oberlin Animal Hospital. I know they have doggie day care and boarding. I really like the staff there.

My fosters went to Crossroads vet in Cary. They're really good too. and i think they board.

both of the above vets are reasonably priced for the area.

i used to board sabrina at her vet, crossroads, and i think it's just her personality but when i'd pick her up she'd seem like she hadn't slept for days, really restless, and agitated. i love them for her vet and they give her great care, but i started boarding her at petsmart and getting her the doggie day camp...i snuck in to see how she was doing the first time i got back and she was running around playing and having a good time. they even called me when she wasn't eating (which she does often when i go away) to ask me what i do whenever she doesn't eat so it would be more like home. sabrina was so happy and exhausted from playing when i picked her up that she basically came home and slept for a whole day, hahaha, as before she would come home, not leave my side and just looked traumatized. i love crossroads as a vet...but not to board my dog.

I'm sure the exact prices for boarding, but with twice a day meds, it should be just under $25 a day...but if you're interested, call 460-0741 to get the exact prices. As far as the prices of other services, we are more expensive than most in the area, but that is due to the fact that we do more in the lines of pain management, comfort levels, etc. than most other vets. We are also using the latest technology and research to treat as well, pushing up costs.

The best way to find out costs would be to call, we're happy to provide an estimate with any service
