I bought some new tires at Costco last month and I noticed that I had green caps on the tires, and noticed on the service sticker they put on my windshield that they put nitrogen in the tires.Is there really any advantage to doing this on a personal vehicle? I know they use it on the space shuttle tired, and remember hearing that they are used in racecars because nitrogen doesn't expand as much as "air" when heated, so it might be good for special purposes.This article says it's good, but isn't the atmosphere 80% nitrogen anyways? (source)Costco gives me free rotations, balances, and probably nitrogen fillups for the life of the tire, but I have heard that some places charge a premium for it ($5/tire). Any thoughts?

Air is 78% nitrogen by default.I think this is something to make customers feel special for buying tires from one place vs. the next. Makes no difference in the real world though.

It's just that nitrogen is relatively inert, and won't cause premature oxidation or dry-rotting of the tire. It also won't support combustion of any sort in case your retarded ass uses an old can of Fix-A-Flat with isopropane as the propellant.And it's usually dry. youre fucking retardedAs for using nitrogen in the air guns, it's not convenience, it's necessity. Since nitrogen is denser than air, you get much more volume of gas going thru the gun when removing lug nuts. More gas means faster rotational rate. Faster rotational rate means nuts get loosened faster. Likewise with CO2.
