A few days ago my buddies computer stopped work. When u hit the power button the computer turns "on" but no signal is sent to the monitor w/ boot stuff. Anyway i opened the case and noticed right off the bat thata the CPU hitsink fan was broken. the problem i thought started cause his CPU overheated and didn't work. eventhough w/ a broken cpu the bootscreen will still appear i thought maybe the motherboard was shot also.

anyway i had some extra computer parts and replaced his CPU/ motherboard. gave him a new graphics card. we took from the old computer the RAM, power supply, hard-drive, and CD drives. we put all this into a new case.

when everything was done, we tried starting the computer again and like before the new parts the computer turned on but the monitor did not receive a signal. at this point i thought maybe its the monitor but i brought the computer to my house and it did the exact same thing.

if you've changed the cpu/motherboard/graphics/monitor and it was still fubar, try changing the ram, that's the only other piece (if bad) i can think of that would prevent a bootup.

alternately, i'd go back through and make sure you're not using the same video cable from card to monitor.

if it's still not working, put each piece one by one in a computer that you know works, to isolate exactly which component is causing the problem.

video card might be too new for the mobo... what are the specs?

I've seen 8X AGP cards not work successfully in older boards, so check that with an older vid card, just to make sure it's the culprit.

some preliminary thoughts:

a) could be you forgot to plug in the graphics card (if required?)
b) the power supply could be overloaded causing some parts to be powered up an not others..
c) run memtest86 on the memory to see if it's still good (if you can test it on another rig)
d) use a power supply tester to check the voltages on all the psu rails
e) video cable could be bad
f) could be missing a vital connection

best thing to do though is isolate parts like what gs7 said, just giving some extra things to think about. i'd focus on the memory and power supply since those are the only two parts that could prevent bootup, but even so you should be getting some sort of motherboard error beeps if it's not posting.

any beep codes and or does the new board have a trouble shooting led with blink codes or a digital readout like the uguru boards? if no beep codes, replace power supply, try again. Bad powersup-ply is alwasy a quick way to loose a mb. Alternate is to buy a ps tester and test the one you have.

i think the video card i gave my friend may be fubar. i tested his ram out and it worked in my computer. i noticed that the fan on the video card was not working. this odd cause i used this video card up until 2 weeks ago. i'm gonna try anohter video card in there this afternoon
