I just found out that I can't get into the engineering department that I've been trying to get into for nearly a whole year now. With my GPA at 2.6, I figure that no other department or school will take me. I've starting on my fifth year now and have amassed some 105 credits.12-15 "core" classes would possibly be all that I need to leave with a degree.Am I screwed?

Ehh..You can matriculate into Computer Engineering with a 2.6

Can you explain your academic history a bit more? Why so many credit hours? What are you planning (were planning) on majoring in?There's a difference between leaving with a degree, leaving with a degree you want, and leaving with a degree you want with a good GPA. Make sure you pick the major which nails that last one.

So many hours..? 105 over 4 years is only 21 per year or 10-11 per semester. I've already completed all necessary electives and I was completing all the necessary pre-matriculation classes for IE.I've always done decent when it came to classes. Not great, but not bad either. I wanted to get into IE, but the minimum to switch, no questions asked, is 2.9.Anything under that, and you have to commit to some contract where you have to maintain a B in five different classes.Needless to say, I had already taken two of them, didn't know about the contract thing, and already made a B- and a C+ in them. With either class, I could easily make a B though. With the B-, I had a B but lost a partial letter grade for attendance. With the C+, I got screwed on a poorly made exam. (Coincidentally, I aced the first exam and the final). But nevertheless, it makes me ineligible for said contract and now I'm pretty much stuck.

you can't have the contract say that you'll take those 2 classes over?[Edited on August 14, 2006 at 5:46 PM. Reason : i think they let too many engineers slide through thought - maybe you aren't cut out for engineering]

105 hours / 4 years = ~26 hours a year not 21 (unless of course you took summer school which is very possible)but anyways, i would say talk to the IE dean/adviser/etc. they will probably work with you if its really what you want to do and you're willing to make the effort and jump through some hoops. however, the fact that you lost a half letter grade in an important class due to attendance is not a good sign(there could be a good reason for that, but you didn't state said reason). but i hope it works out.
