Just wondering what there all is to do in Raleigh and the area. I've 'lived' in/near fayetteville for about 2 years now and ive only been up to raleigh once or twice. im getting off of active duty army in about 6 months or so and will be moving to the area to attend NC State. i dont know anyone in the area and i dont really even know the area... just looking for friends, chat, info... whatever

The best thing to do in Raleigh is to goto Chapel Hill on weekends

^^don't listen to that guy, apparently he can't cut it in Raleigh with the women. The occasional trip to CH is fun though. There are a bunch of good bars to check out on Hillsborough St by NCSU. Glenwood south and West St and Moore Sq are also great downtown areas to check out for their nightlife. Red Room, Around the Corner, Havana Deluxe, Hibernia, etc. are good bars in the area. You haven't really mentioned what your interests are so I'll leave it at that for now.[Edited on August 8, 2006 at 1:40 PM. raleigh actually has a decent bar scene, considering what you would expect it to have
8/8/2006 1:41:32 PM
I was being serious...Red Room and the area used to be good...but all I see now on weekends is hip-hop homies grinding to Ms New Booty. That area sucks...unless you come from a village.
8/8/2006 1:42:16 PM
those tats aren't that big a deal.he can always get them removed, right?

why?
8/8/2006 1:52:41 PM
it's a long story, but I was trying to avoid drunk driving.
8/8/2006 1:53:25 PM
no, im not one of the 'hip hop homies'. whats the big deal with my tattoos? someone asked for interests.... im looking for local flavor type places. bars with atmosphere to go with a decent selection of beer, not just lots of drunk people hitting on the last 4 females on earth. local restaurants, i can get applebees anywhere. places to go do things outdoors if i want... hiking or biking. cool local parks to go hang out or do shit at.

you gotta come out with something more than "DON'T LISTEN TO THAT GUY" to pick anything with me.I have travelled more globally in the first 10 years of my life than you'd ever do in your entire life.I know what I am talking aboutUNLESS YOU COME FROM A VILLAGE
8/8/2006 2:01:13 PM

not to perpetuate a tangent that doesnt need to be taken... but what relevance is there between global travel and places of fun/entertainment in the raleigh area? having lived in 5 states, during my adult life, hasnt taught me a thing about where i live now, has it?
8/8/2006 2:09:31 PM

Depends on what you're into, but the Triangle has a pretty decent music scene between the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, Lincoln Theatre and Disco Rodeo in Raleigh (at least they used to have good shows when they were the Ritz), and a number of smaller hole in the wall places (Local 506, The Brewery (is that still open?), etc.). And of course you have the big stadium concerts as well, RBC center, Walnut Creek, etc.

joder6925 do you know where you're living when ya come (i.e. dorm, apt)
8/8/2006 2:12:57 PM
Raleigh has no entertainment compared to a big city.If you haven't been to a big city, you can't comprehend this.If your idea of a 'big city' is Atlanta, you can't comprehend this.
8/8/2006 2:14:11 PM
SandSanta knows what I mean.
8/8/2006 2:14:33 PM
it depends on what you like to do. I would be much more entertained living in a small town in the mtns than in a big city like atl. You people think if you don't like it nobody should.

8/8/2006 2:16:50 PM
dude, don't let them trashtalk raleigh. I had a great time the 5 years I've lived here. No, it's not a big city. And that's why I like it. If you're looking for the cops to teargas Glenwood South on a Saturday night at 2am, it's not going to happen. But it's a relatively safe city. You have 60,000 college kids in a 30 mile radius. Great college sports. Decent nightlife. Plus, Raleigh was rated by Men's Health as the 19th best city for men, and rated by MSN as the 4th best city for singles. It's not bad. Really, it's not.
8/8/2006 2:18:43 PM
I've been to and experienced pretty much every "big city" in the US and quite a few in Europe. The only difference is the transportation, I've had just as much fun in every place. Just different things to do.I love how everyone loves to put down Raleigh like its some podunk town with no life, no women and no scene. There are TONS of women here (and in CH of course), TONS of shit to do on a daily basis, and damn near every special interest you could think of. Highest growth of any metro area on the east coast, for it to be a shitty place, youd think that wouldnt be the case.
8/8/2006 2:21:39 PM
i think its funny that people think a bigger city must be better. Seems shallow to me.

a- i hate no oneb- i will buy a house. if not, ill rent one... regardless, ill live off campusc- ive done a bit of 'socializing' in chicago... is that big? i still dont see the correlation to where ive been and where im going? i lived in monterey CA and didnt expect fayetteville to be the same. it provided a basis of comparison, but just because fayetteville sucks compared to monterey, does that meant fayetteville has nothing to offer? if raleigh is so bad, as you say, what do you do there?d- i am eclectic... i dont necessarily align myself with one particular crowd/group. i would enjoy getting into the local music scene. i enjoy going out to downtown bars. i enjoy being out in the middle of nowhere, hiking and stuff like that. diversity is the key. raleigh, to me, seems to have a good blend of local flavor with big city draw. the point here isnt necessarily to customize raleigh to me... just tell me what raleigh is to you. im not going to any bars or doing any night life with the intent of hooking up or meeting a future girlfriend. if i dont have at least ONE person to go to a bar with, im not likely going to a bar anyway. some place with music, darts, pool and has something of a reputation of being a social hang out more than a place to hook up. e- what entertainment does raleigh not have that bigger cities do?
8/8/2006 2:28:06 PM
^^^^ that means more women for me
8/8/2006 2:28:58 PM
^^You'll find plenty of shit to do, although the hiking/camping is sort of lacking in this area, but that's what the mountains are for.

Are you kidding me?Show me where in any of my (two posts) in this thread I bitched.Show me where in any of my (now three posts) in this thread I complained about a lack of girls in Raleigh.NoI stated that Raleigh wasn't a big city and had little to offer anyone thats actually been to a big city. You knowThe ones that measures their population in the millionsNot to mention, I said compared to which actually doesn't even say "Raleigh has no Entertainment" but rather, "Raleigh has no entertainment compared to a real Metropolis"You fucking mongoloid.[Edited on August 8, 2006 at 2:49 PM.
