Would it be possible to lock threads where the thread orginator pastes an excerpt from an article and the article link but only 'discuss' or even nothing else?

It would be nice if people put at least a little bit of thought into the threads they create. I know we all "LOL" at salisbot and we (well some of us) like to harp on TreeTwistah but this <discuss><randomlinktogarbage></discuss> wouldn't even fly in chit chat.

Oh no, did i post something you didnt like? That thread you chose of mine actually is resulting in discussion, involved a SHORT article, and involves a political topic. Maybe next time ill grab something from the mainstream media and just blow smoke up everyone's rears.

i usually don't lock them at first...sometimes they take off with actual discussion, despite the best efforts of the original poster...sometimes they deteriorate even more, at which point I lock them.

I'd rather the first few replies be about the news itself rather than flames to any initial comment I might leave. That way I can flame whoever makes the first couple of replies

Seriously though, I might be more inclined to actually do what you suggest if I didn't feel like the entire SB was just one big argument for the sake of arguing. Perhaps I should keep the news postings to the Lounge.
