Just wondering what some of the people on here think about gas permeable and other hard contacts. I don't really won't to pay $300 for a pair of soft torics, and I have the option of getting some pair of hard contacts, but I've never worn them before, so I'm not sure if its worth it.

Are they really annoying and too hard to get used to? My soft contacts were very thick due to my astigmatism, so I figured hard contacts shouldn't be too bad. I just can't find anyone who wears them.

my mom still wears them and likes them - but she can't go a whole day in them like most people in soft contacts can

with my soft contacts I never really took them out but once a week, and didn't have a problem - I couldn't get disposable ones because they didnt make em at the time in my prescription, so I was stuck with the 'one a year' pair

Once people get used to them, they think they are great, although at first they are really annoying. If your optometrist thinks its what is best, then I would give it a shot.

yeah he recommended it because i have a hard time seeing 20/20 with my contacts - i figured if they are $100 cheaper than the soft torics i would try them, i just didnt want to get something that i couldnt stand at all (i'll end up wearing these things probably 3-4 years since i wore my soft ones for 2-3 before renewing them, im cheap)

I have the kind that you can wear for 2 weeks ( I wear them 3) without ever taking them out, I highly recomend these

I wore gas perms for 6 years. They made me see much crisper and much clearer. They were hell on my eyes causing them to be red and people asking me if I was high.

Im in two week disposable soft lenses now, much better but the crispness isnt there. The gas perms did cause my astigmatism go away

around my junior year in h.s. i got them. my astigmatism is horrid, and this was the only option. i could never get used to them, and i was a fickle h.s. student and decided to stick with glasses.

if i ever do get contacts, i don't want the kind where i'm gonna have to take them out to sleep and shower. it just got annoying real fast.

when i first got contacts, the eye doctor made me try the hard ones first. i was never able to get them in because they hurt too much.

i only have 2 options though - the kind you take out every night that last for a year (i think sunsoft torics are the name - since they are the only ones my doctor says makes my prescription)and the rigid gas permeable hard contacts that i probably wont be able to wear more than 8 hours

i wish i could go with the disposable ones but since they dont make em yet in my prescription, im screwed

I wore hard lenses for a year when I was 11. If an 11 year old girl can handle them, you can.

They're really not that bad but you have to be sure to clean them and let them sit in softening solution for the recommended amount of time, otherwise they'll be harder to wear and much more uncomfortable.

its -4.00 and -4.00, its something to do with the rest of the prescription though (as i was told) thats wayyyyy off

last year i was in -5.25 and -6.50 - thats all i remember

hard contacts were terrible for me. I battled with them for 2 years and i finally said enough is enough and got soft ones. The eye doctot kept telling me that I just had to get used to them but i was so frustrated after 2 years of red eyes and irritation. Everyday it was a constant struggle and never any extened comfort. I hate contacts and glasses i just want to be normal

I used to have them for years when I was younger. I think they help retard the degeneration of the eye. Besides that I really hated them when playing sports, they always moved around.

my right eye is a -7.00 and my left is a -6.50, and i have astigmatism in both eyes.

i was put in soft contacts when i started wearing them in the 6th grade. I've worn them since and haven't had a problem until now. I can't wear soft contacts like I use to. They dry my eyes out and irritate them now. So I now have to find out what my options are.

^^Yes, you can shower in them. I mean, don't run your face under the faucet with your eyes open for hours on end, but yea... shower is fine.

td- maybe you could ask about Acuvue Advance for Astig. I have a horrible astig. and I use them. Take them out every 2weeks, and put new ones in. I see fine with them. Oh, and my Rx is -6 something in both eyes.

I have asked, sunsoft is the only company that supplies my contacts - I've been to Wal-Mart, Pearl Vision, and my local eye doctor

I don't know what my prescription is, but something is really wrong with my eyes, I can't even have eye surgery to correct my vision (because my astigmatism is so fucked).

I got my first pair of torics in 6th grade and they were $560 a pair for 6 mths, since then theyve become cheaper, but I still can't find anything under $300 that isn't hard.

the new doctor I went to said not to get hard contacts because I wouldnt like them - she prescribed the Frequency 55 XR monthly disposables ($390/year)

anyone ever tried these?

countrygirl you should tell your eye doctor about your dry eyes

not all soft contacts are the same, and he/she should be able to prescribe you a pair that will not make your eyes feel dry all the time

^ thanks.......i plan to go to my eye dr on next mon. i will discuss with him my problem. i was wondering if anyone is using the acuvue hydroclears?

i typically just use the regular acuvues and he switched me over to the ciba's ones that you can wear overnight. i had to stop using those cuz they really dried my eyes out. i couldn't even wear them a full day. i switched back to my old kind and things haven't been the same.

^ i work at an optometrists office, so i've tried a lot of contacts, but the acuvue's with hydraclear (acuvue advance and acuvue oasys) are by far my favorites-- i know what ciba ones you are talking about and they dry my eyes out really bad too. just mention it to your doc

I always heard bad things about gas perm, but I never have worn contacts.. I heard basically it's harder for your eyes to breathe. But people who've been wearing them for a while tended to stay w/ them because it was what they were used to.

SO basically the only thing wrong w/ your eyes is astigmatism? I mean, just -.25 right and plano left?

fuuuuuuuuuun stuff. Good luck w/ that.

I'm -6.50 and -7.50

Wear soft 2-week disposables. I'd hate to try the hard ones but I've known someone else with different eye problems outside of regular near- or far-sighted issues that can't help but use hard contacts, but can't wear them all day.
