if i had an all-in-one printer (scanner, fax, copier, printer, etc.) attached to a wireless print server, would the scanner function still work properly?basically, if i scanned a document, how would it get the image to the computer i want?/n00b

have you ever downloaded something off of a wireless network before?

just share where the scanned document is saved

I'm pretty sure the scanner won't work through the network for an all-in-one printer via print server. I think I remember reading that somewhere. The scanner part only works when hooked up directly to a computer via USB, but you can only print when it's connected via print server (wired or wireless). Now if I'm wrong that would be great, would solve a lot of connectivity problems for me. Please point out if I'm wrong here.

I did a quick search and found that there's at least one AIO solution that will let you scan over the network according to this one review:

its completely dependent on the capabilities of the printer.

hmm, that's what i was afraid of[Edited on August 2, 2006 at 12:31 AM. Reason : i'm probably not going to be able to afford one that'd work properly]

you could hook a computer between the two.

i could, but the printer is going to be set up where it isn't convenient to have a computer

hmmmm...i'm trying to think of a way- maybe you just gotta figure out a good place to put your printer?if thats an option i suppose

Here is a solution. It is an advanced printer server specifically for multi-function printers.http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/searchdetail.asp?productID=12575

that would be ideal if wireless

You might just want to look into a bluetooth printer. That should offer full functionality at range. Many bluetooth printers also come with or have optional network interfaces too.

just hook up a small form factor computer as a server to the printer and save the scan to the pc and get it through the network

yeah i was thinking of buying some old shitty computer to act as a print server/network drive[Edited on August 2, 2006 at 7:46 PM. Reason : anyone have a $50 comp they want to sell?]
