i have a laptop and am close to filling my external hard drive so i need more space. i noticed that western digital has these nice network hard drives i can hook up to my router, daisy chain my current external HD, and hookup my printer. right now a 320 gb drive goes for $290 at circuit city. havnt looked at prices for it anywhere else. does anyone know about this hard drive or have any suggestions? i like the fact that i could stay wireless with the laptop, but still be connected to my printer and HD. need input.

expensive as fuck.if you have a desktop lying around you could fill it to the brim with big hdds for 290$ and just use network shares.

If you are behind a router/NAT and aren't paranoid about security, setup Windows File and Print Sharing. Only other "downside" is the computer with the printer/external hd hooked up to it would need to stay on 24x7 to have access to those resources. Those hard drives are nice in situations where you need storage accessible from anywhere FAST. If you aren't time-constrained, do some more research on a better/cheaper solution.

Desktops use more power though and are bulkier than the network servers.
