8/1/2006 8:21:07 AM
just scratch the hell out of it
8/1/2006 8:26:21 AM

8/1/2006 9:30:09 AM
^^^since its systemic i guess you'd have to inject the oatmeal into your bloodstreamlet me know how that goes[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 10:53 AM. Reason : ^]

You can go to the health center or urgent care. The ER would be a pain in the rear.
8/1/2006 10:40:13 AM
I think poison oak is pretty rare in NC. I think you probably mean poison ivy. That said, read up:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urushiol-induced_contact_dermatitis
8/1/2006 11:40:48 AM
get the steriods, I've had to get them before after having very bad cases of poison Ivyyou'll be better in 2-3 days with the steriods
8/1/2006 12:04:09 PM
clorox the areas...and then quit your bitching
8/1/2006 12:42:23 PM
Poison oak is not rare in north carolina, atleast not where im from. Poison ivy grows on the ground and oak grows on trees.
8/1/2006 1:46:15 PM
^^thats what I was gonna say, but if its inside'em that won't work..well without dire consequences
8/1/2006 1:50:18 PM
quit being a damn pussy. and no, scratching it will not spread it after you have washed the area with soap and water.
8/1/2006 2:04:27 PM
^^^ just so everyone is informed, including you, poison ivy does grow on trees, its the large hairy vines growing up tree trunksimage too large to posthttp://www.discoverlife.org/ed/si/GA/acc/cleveland_road_es/images/pivy2.jpg
8/1/2006 2:23:13 PM
I used to get it badly very often and used urushiol extract when I had it and then stayed on it and now despite still being an active hiker and outdoor person I have never had more than a minor spot on an ankle or wrist.
8/1/2006 2:45:32 PM
Why do you assume that I am an idiot incapable of using "google" or any sort of medical source? "quit being a damn pussy. and no, scratching it will not spread it after you have washed the area with soap and water"I asked a legit question....don't be an ass. Note that I've posted only once to ask the question...no "bitching" involved.. I probably shouldn't have even responded. Whatever, i won't again. I'm just tired of arrogant people who have no justification to be so
8/1/2006 3:14:50 PM
Student Health will offer you hydrocortisone (sp?) or steroids. The steroid was a ten day dosage that I stepped down gradually when I had it. For systemic, steroids would prolly be the best option.
8/1/2006 9:18:36 PM
When you get poisen oak and it stings the best cure is to get someone to pee on you
8/1/2006 9:20:06 PM
poison oak is a Pacific specieswe have poison ivy, it grows in every habit except for tree
8/1/2006 9:22:31 PM
Wow... It's amazing the mis-information you can get here...We have both Poison Oak and Ivy.http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/poison/indcop_t.htmThey both suck and itch like hell.... Both thrive in NC.
8/1/2006 9:28:24 PM
havent read the thread, but I had poison ivy my freshman year and the health center gave me some stuff that was awesome.
8/1/2006 9:30:35 PM
I wouldn't say poison oak thrives, but we do have it. Its not anywhere close to being as common as poison ivy.
8/1/2006 9:47:58 PM
what exactly is systemic poison [insert]like why is it continuous
8/1/2006 10:16:26 PM
I'm so allergic to that shit, I'm going to get it just for reading this threadasshole(Ever had it under your eyelids and in your mouth? Not fun)
8/1/2006 10:21:53 PM
systemic means it basically gets in your bloodstream, and then the rash shows up in places you didn't touch the plant or spread the oils to. definitely not fun. Rx oral steriod like prednisone might help w/swelling/itching. but no, it won't help you bulk up. not that kind of steriod You can also try http://www.zanfel.com on the rash itself. Way expensive stuff but makes you not feel like tearing your skin off, at least for a while. It's almost like gojo hand cleaner with the grit, but has some crazy chemical in it to bond to the urushiol...yadda yadda yadda[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 10:41 PM. Reason : zanfel]
8/1/2006 10:32:22 PM
ah thats kinda gayim glad i aint gotta worry about it, interesting condition though
8/1/2006 10:37:09 PM
after the steroid shot the doc should prescribe keflex and a medrol dose pack
8/1/2006 10:39:32 PM
I didn't exactly know the definition of "Systemic", but I guess I'd fall in that category. When I was younger I'd practically get it just from hearing stories about it. I've had to go to the doctor/hospital 3-4 times before to get a shot for it becuase over 90% of my body was covered in it.
8/1/2006 10:40:09 PM
try what i said seriously
8/1/2006 10:41:03 PM
When I had a case of systemic poison ivy, I broke out with huge rashes under my armpits, on my stomach, and neck.I'm very allergic to say the least...It sure helps that I'm a forester
8/1/2006 10:43:21 PM
I used to get poison ivy like that when I was a kid. The doc would prescribe an oral steroid and a steroid cream that would normally knock it out in a week or so. Having it that bad definetly blows though.
8/1/2006 10:51:03 PM
AHA, so much bullshit in this thread.
8/2/2006 4:43:44 AM
i love the urushiol extract idea, i'll definitely use that one. Actually the dr. wasnt sure this was all poison oak/ivy . She gave me the strongest topical steroid available, and made a follow-up appt. for tomorrow to see the progression. If its not any better I have to go to a dermatologist. She thought it may be a food or drug allergy in addition to the poison rash in addition to the rash i have from erysipelas (a streptococcal illness that produces large welts). SO. Needless to say. IT's 100 degrees out and I'm in long sleeves and pants, and feel like a leper. Please no stones...
