Name of the topic says it all. Apparently I have fucking silver bullets and looks like we may be having kid #2. Not sure yet but she's going to the doctor this week to get the bloodtest done. We were kinda hoping for one, but shit we hadn't even gotten off her birth control yet!Anyways in the interests of being able to shoot it whenever and not worry about her damn birth control anymore, I'm seriously considering this, if she is in fact pregnant. Any guys gone under the knife? I'm guessing 99.5% of the guys on here are still way too fucking young to have even thought about this yet, but maybe some of you older farts floating around here can share.

The operation is painless and takes a couple of hours...that is you'd be home the same day as if nothing happened.PS: You're younger to me...and I still don't have kids I can't afford[Edited on July 31, 2006 at 12:40 AM. Reason : .]

sure do it. just put some sperm on ice.
7/31/2006 12:39:56 AM
I have a friend who is a medical student, close to graduation. He had to witness a vasectomy. We ate Mexican food, and he told me about it. Local anaesthesia, involves bruising afterward. If done properly, virtually irreversible. It takes a couple of days to rid yourself of all sperm after the procedure. Involves incision and burning of the tubes. He told me it's still medically considered a reversible procedure, although in his opinion it should not be considered as such.As you can imagine, this was more enjoyable to think about while eating dinner. I had shrimp and peppers.

I don't know anything about vasectomies, but I would definitely "put some sperm on ice." I only say this because a couple in our church were only planning on having one child, but that child died suddenly at the age of seven. The couple had an extremely difficult time dealing with their loss. Doctors recommended that since they were young enough that they go ahead and have more children. They had two children back to back and those children really helped that couple work through their grief. It would have been quite sad if they had lost their only child and been unable to have more children. And there are also couples who have a critically ill child who have another child in hopes that the new baby will be a match for their sick child.Putting sperm on ice at least leaves the option of having more children there without going through the process of having a vasectomy reversed.

My brother had this done....I don't know exactly how it felt but when we picked him up, he was super quiet and grumpy and had to ice his balls for a few days. He laid around for maybe 2 days and has since been painfree and pregnancy free!
7/31/2006 12:48:05 AM
pops got it years ago, the anesthesia didnt kick in and he was screaming bloody fucking murder from the stories I've heard.
7/31/2006 12:48:27 AM
is wearing a rubber really that bad?
7/31/2006 12:57:03 AM
Ahhh fuck you Noen. I was reading some sites about it and getting fairly comfortable with it when you had to mentioni that shit. Haha.I am seriously considering it, though I think you have a good point Bottombaby that I had not considered. In fact I think if it turns out to be true that she is pregnant again, I may go on and have it done while she is pregnant. That way I can get over the whole snipping incident and since it can be a month or two before all the sperm clears out of your semen I won't need to worry about getting her on birth control again for a few months after the delivery.
7/31/2006 12:57:50 AM
SS, I personally don't like them. But I have issues with them as birth control. I was using them the first time when we conceived our son. Musta got one with a tiny hole in it or something, I dunno. Like I said, I must be shooting silver bullets. First condoms don't work and now I blow through the patch.Hence why I'm seriously considering this.
7/31/2006 12:59:36 AM
Why wouldn't she have her tubes tied while she's already in the hospital for delivery? That's what most of the women I know who have already had their preferred number of children have done. It's very common.
7/31/2006 1:00:54 AM
Because she had no need for a C-Section. She delivered with no pain meds of any kind within an hour of going into labor. She's scared shitless now because she said she'll probably be in labor for a month as retribution for the ease of her first delivery.
7/31/2006 1:03:47 AM
Tubal ligation is laproscopic surgery that is often done in an outpatient clinic. You end up with tiny little incisions near your belly button that you can cover with a bandaide. It'd be just as simple as a vasectomy and if she's already going to be at the hospital, it'll only take 30 minutes. . . *shrug*[Edited on July 31, 2006 at 1:11 AM. Reason : sp/]
7/31/2006 1:09:03 AM
Yea its something we may consider as well. I dunno yet, we aren't even for sure she's pregnant yet. But most of the folks that have tubal ligation that I have heard of have to go under general anesthesia and get it done if they have a C-Section. Luckily for us, she has apparently got a body that is pretty good at delivering and carrying babies, so she hasn't had to go under the knife.Besides I appreciate the fact that she goes through a lot of pain in childbirth and dealing with BC and shit, so if I can do a part that makes her feel like I really care and want to be responsible, then I'm cool with that. Now if a C-Section does come up, we may consider it.
7/31/2006 1:12:44 AM
Back in my day, we didn't have these complex methods of bith controllike pulling out...
7/31/2006 1:12:55 AM
Only thing I'm thinking of is a divorce/widow scenario. What happens if you DO want have more children from another marriage in the future? Not sure how "natural" it has to be for both sides to be happy.
7/31/2006 6:18:39 AM
Just do it and fuck putting sperm on ice. There are kids that need adopting. If you decide you MUST have a third, adopt it.
7/31/2006 7:18:56 AM
As fucking expensive as kids are, I doubt I will ever want a third. But I probably will still put some on ice just to be on the safe side.
7/31/2006 7:25:41 AM
My view....never snip it, b/c you just NEVER, EVER know...That's bad luck, Mr. Silver Bullets. Blow through a patch? Damn. Would she take the needle (Depo-Provera, I think - atleast you know the drug gets into her body)? You had bad luck w/ male condoms, I presume. Ever try female condoms? Try it atleast once. But, if ya gotta, put some of dat shit on ice.
7/31/2006 12:25:00 PM
all these birth control methods...and no one mentions IUDs. go figure.

7/31/2006 1:39:36 PM
new vasectomy solutions are in the works - the old solutions don't always work 100% of the timelife finds a way kind of crap
7/31/2006 1:42:11 PM
I really need to chime in on this one. I owe it to my fellow men.I had it done around four of five months ago and couldn't be happier. We wanted two kids, but after lucky and unexpected number three came out healthy, I got the snip. The procedure is really simple and non-invasive. They give you three locals. Two on the sides of your balls and one right in the middle of your balls (that’s the hole they use to pull the vas deferens (sp?) up and cauterize them). Needless to say, when I went for the consult and heard I would be getting a shot in the balls, I was not too happy. I received a valium and took it 30 minutes before the surgery which eased all my anxiety. It didn’t make it any easier when I got into the surgery room and the nurse was pretty hot, but the valium really takes care of any reservations you might have had in a clear state of mind. The whole procedure took about 10-15 minutes. You get pain meds, but may I suggest stopping by the grocery store and picking up a bag of frozen peas for the swelling and a 12 pack of beer. It was a little sore and left a bruise, but that was it.You have to stay off your feet that day and maybe a little the next day so I suggest lining it up with some sort of sporting event to pass the time. I did mine right in the middle of March Madness (pain meds + beer + March Madness + wife waiting on you hand and foot = sinfully good time). If you keep them iced down and off your feet the first day, you'll heel up pretty quick and you'll be back to fucking fat bitches in no time.

I, being female, have not had a vasectomy ... but I do have an IUDhttp://www.mirena-us.com/We had #2 back-to-back with #1, and this option was cheaper (we paid $30, insurance paid the rest) and less painful than surgeryto 1cypher ... stem cells present in the placenta and cord blood can sometimes be used to do things like patch holes in a sibling's heart and stuff, assuming they are a donor match. [Edited on July 31, 2006 at 4:22 PM. Reason : .]
7/31/2006 4:18:54 PM
Mirena is wonderful. It seems that around here, if you aren't married and haven't had kids, doctors feel its okay to deny you your chosen choice of birth control, but your wife shouldn't have that problem at all
7/31/2006 4:25:23 PM
out of curiosity, for the parents here, how do you explain to your kid that they were an accident?
7/31/2006 5:11:32 PM
^well from my childhood experience I was an accident before marriageI was what my family termed "a love child" and when I asked about it when I was really young I remember my mom sitting me down and saying that "mommy and daddy loved each other so much that we couldnt wait for marriage to have you." Sure, I was an accident, but I never felt like one.probably doesn't answer your question but in the future if I ended up having like one more child than planned I guess I wouldnt address it, it wouldn't be a big deal- not enough to actually say hey you were an accident btw thanks for messing up my plans [Edited on July 31, 2006 at 5:32 PM. 7/31/2006 5:26:39 PM
Thanks for the comments. She did go to the DR today and its confirmed, we are having #2. I'm kinda excited and a little apprehensive. On the one hand we wanted two, on the other I think we are going to have to still grow up a little more. Right now we can take turns babywatching with just one and him being 3, but its gonna be a bit hectic juggling a 4 year old and a newborn!
7/31/2006 7:24:32 PM
well...congratulations on the new child!as for the vasectomy, i didn't read the whole thread, but remember that they are reversible (more easily than reversing tied tubes), and if you think you might want a third child later on down the road, make sure you store some sperm...if you don't think you're going to want a third child, but later on decide you do, that's when you have the reversal
7/31/2006 7:29:00 PM
Does it really matter if the child is planned or not? I was seriously planned. My mother miscarried twice before she became pregnant with me. She charted her temperature and her cycle and just about everything in the book on a calendar that she saved in a box in her closet. When my brother and I were 12 or 13 (old enough to know about the birds and the bees), we found it in her closet and asked her about it. My brother wanted to know why I had a calendar and he didn't. My mom explained to him that they both wanted kids very much, but I was still a baby and they weren't planning on having another one yet. She ended up pregnant when I was 9 months old and it was a blessing. She told my brother she was so glad that she got pregnant when she did because then she had both of us when my father died a year and a half later and my dad had a chance to meet his son. The way she explained it was very touching. And my brother hasn't seemed to be bothered by the fact that he was an accident.Congratulations! I highly recommend that if you haven't gotten your four year old absolutely potty trained that you go ahead and do so before the baby gets here. Two in diapers is TOUGH.[Edited on July 31, 2006 at 7:33 PM. Reason : congrats.]
7/31/2006 7:29:31 PM
He will def be in diapers by then. He is potty training but unlike when I was a lil boy, he really doesn't care much if he's wet or dirty or not. I hated it and was potty trained at like 2 or something pretty early.
7/31/2006 7:38:53 PM
Ask your wife to get a Mirena IUD... good for 5 years at a time, and can be taken out any time before then if you decide to have #3No babies til 2011 Wooo Hooo(And the cost at full price equals to about $6 per month.... If insurance picks it up and all you pay is the co-pay on it, it drops to about 67 cents per month)I 'read a book' on it once [Edited on July 31, 2006 at 10:47 PM. Reason : Repeated Info, sure.... but worth it for another opinion, ehhh?]

8/1/2006 5:39:46 AM
Thank you sir.And QT that might be something we look into instead. Thanks for the suggestion. IUDs were never mentioned to my wife as a choice when she went for BC.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 6:57 AM. Reason : ]
8/1/2006 6:53:27 AM
In my case it was one of few options b/c of a blood 'issue' I can't put estrogen in my system in the form of BC.... Mirena is strictly progestogen releasing, so it is fine for my situation. I would say it probably isn't offered to the typical college student, and quite honestly... also understand why (after having it). IUD's still have a little bit of a bad rap too... most of the problems were associated with the copper coil IUD, which is still offered & lasts 10 years as opposed to 5, but can cause more bleeding (Mirena causes less, after several months) among many other things.Long story short.... do what works best for your situation, but I'd highly suggest at least reading about it and throwing it out as an option. There may not be a perfect solution, but for me, it's come close![Edited on August 1, 2006 at 9:56 AM. Reason : ]
8/1/2006 9:55:22 AM
^ Nighthawk, gg. I'd go through all the other options before snipping your homies. then put a good bit on ice just incase. either way congrats on the second!
8/1/2006 10:37:28 AM
...just dropped in to reiterate the "put some on ice" recommendation
8/1/2006 10:45:06 AM
Damn, 24 is old? So much for turing "25 years young" on August 20th.
8/1/2006 11:14:40 AM
I hope its a girl!!!
8/1/2006 11:16:59 AM
^My mother-in-law hopes so too. She wants a little girl to dress up. My wife says she has no preference, but I think she wants a girl. They say the dad is the main determining factor in that, and my father had 2 boys, so I think the odds are in favor of another boy. Financially I'd rather have a boy because he can use Matthews clothes and things like that. And while I'd love to have a little girl, I think being a dad and watching my little girl grow up would be much too traumatic for me.
8/1/2006 11:51:21 AM
On the note of telling kids they're accidents....just dont. Take my advice, and if you love the kid, just neveer ever tell them this. The love child thing is actually not too bad, but NEVER tell the kid that they weren't planned, weren't expected as soon as they were, whatever. My mom insists that they wanted children i just was ..much earlier than they ever expected me to be (they were planning on trying for a couple years). I know I wasn't an accident, but I've always had this nagging feeling that by being so much ealier than she planned on, i screwed something up, and she resents it.Then again that may just be the wierd relationship between me and my mother that would make any pshycologist run screaming.
