generally, a term for any pub-type beer serving place in germany, or one that specializes in german beer. i think.

A place with a bunch of beer where you can drink outside.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/beer%20garden

[Edited on July 29, 2006 at 3:21 PM. Reason : I imagine other alcohol can be consumed there too.]

"A beer garden (or in the German language, Biergarten) is an open-air drinking establishment that originated in Bavaria, where beer gardens in general are distinguished from traditional beer gardens today. In Austria, the beer garden is called Gastgarten (guest garden). "

basically, it'll be an enclosed area out in the festival that you can go and drink beer.

You would think they could come up with a less gay name for that than "beer garden", I guess most of us would refer to such a situation as tailgating/drinking outside.

Anyone wanna go to the beer garden?

I've been to several in Budingen, Frankfurt, and Munich. It's been a few years since I was there, but they were AWESOME--if you like excellent beer.

If you ever travel to Germany, ask the barmixer for hefeviesen and/or--if it's in season--doppelbock. Both will knock your socks off! Oh, and I tried the original Budweiser there, too. It’s made in Czechoslovakia, and it was pretty damn good. By the way, they call cases of German beer “racks,” which look like our milk crates. In addition, most of the beers come in bottles.

It took me a couple years to get used to American beer again when I came home. In comparison to German brews, our stuff just tasted like beer-flavored water.

If the Disney biergarten is similar to the one at Busch Gardens, it will capture--in a stereotypical way--a real German biergarten. Many of the biergartens fit the stereotype; some seem like they WANT to fit it. (Maybe for tourists?) I have seen many a German man wearing a green felt hat, too!

Whatever they build in downtown Raleigh will probably feel similar to a cross between Flying Saucer and Hibernian or Napper Tandy's. That'll work for me.

To the PBR fans: If you like that beer, give Old Milwaukee a try; it's good. These days, I usually drink Amstel Light and Guinness.
