Here is the dealio, I did a 5 speed swap and everything worked well except the clutch pedal is super JDM soft (as in I can push it to the floor with my pinky without trying at all), the pedal comes right back up but it it way to soft. Lately as my clutch has been breaking in it is getting rougher shifts. They arn't that rough and it stays in gear and will go in for me, but while shifting into 2nd and 3rd it feels like it is hitting something inside before it slides into gear. It was working fine a few weeks ago. I am using super crappy Coastal GL-4 / GL-5 (the car is supposed to take GL-4) and I'm going to put in redline MT-90 shortly. Should I order up a new clutch master and slave while I'm at it (they came with the transmission so I should probably replace them anyways). I have also tried adjusting the clutch pedal freeplay from inside the car to help some which is a PITA to do. Oh, also I eliminated the stock clutch dampener box but the pedal is still super soft. Is there anything else I should do? I don't really want to have to drop the tranny back down. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

If you don't see any signs of leakage around the slave cylinder, then my bet's that the master has shit the bed and it's sucking air around the cup seal on the backstroke (when it's supposed to be drawing a vacuum in the cylinder until the reservoir port is uncovered). Or it's just worn the fuck out.I take it you don't see any fluid running down the firewall, either inside the car or in the engine compartment. If so, then that's a definite sign that the master has shit the bed. If not, then see the above sucking issue. It could still be bad.

Yeah, there is no fluid leaking anywhere. I am going to put in redline mt90 in it on monday, I will also probably get a new slave/master

I doubt very seriously that the oil has a damn thing to do with it. I don't think you'll have to drop the tranny.I think the very first thing you need to do is look at replacing the master.

yeah oil will seriously fix a broken slave cylinder.my celica did the same thing when the slave cylinder "shit the bed". get a new one of those.also that redline shit is so thin. i used it in the celica it actually made my shifts rougher so i switched back to the thicker shit. besides it's as expensive as ball sacks.$.02

Well I put in redline and it made shifts much smoother and it doesn't fight back at all. Great stuff.

does the clutch still suck ass?are you sure you're bleeding it correctly? why don't you take out the clutch dampener assembly while you're at it.

Yeah, I'm probably going to go get a new one ordered. Easy and cheap to fix so I might as well do it before school starts. While I was changing my tranny fluid I did notice that the slave has great extension and everything.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 3:38 PM. Reason : s]
