I'm trying to find some 3D CAD software that would fall under the categories of freeware or inexpensive. I've been trying to play with a program called freecad 8 and Alibre Design. FreeCAD not so good. Alibre Design is similar to SolidWorks, however to full version is $999. What are some prices/names of programs that you guys have used?

http://www.structural-engineering.fsnet.co.uk/bunch of free software there, several CAD programs. You also may want to consider trying to buy an older version of AutoCad, Solidworks, etc. from someone.

I'm really looking for something that would export to a .STL file format. My target price is $150 or less.

get a student or professor to front credentials so you can have the solidworks student edition.

FYI, Alibre Xpress would have to be the best free 3D Modeling software out there. I have been playing with it and it seems to work fairly well. Give it a look if you are interested in some CAD software that you don't have to drop any cash on!
