and I just lost my job, along with 250 others in the Selma area... The big wigs came to town today, and they told us it was for an introduction... The first words out of the new guys mouth are, "we regret to inform you this plant will be closing within the next year"... Im pretty bummed out.Fuck Reynosa MexicoI dont know if its lounge or chit chat
7/27/2006 2:32:10 PM
what kind of IE work were you doing? process engr type stuff or what?
7/27/2006 2:32:58 PM
yeah I am a combination Process, Manufacturing, Systems engineerbut basically Industrial, Its all the same here, theres only 3 of us
7/27/2006 2:36:58 PM
i take it it was a manufacturing plant?
7/27/2006 2:38:39 PM
yeah we make control switches for motor vehicleswe make the switch for the Ford GT on the dash here, im in charge of that onethe 5 on the dash
7/27/2006 2:40:40 PM
well if you didn't forsee this coming you haven't done your research - get into supply chain - otherwise move
7/27/2006 2:42:26 PM
yeah well I havent graduated yet, but I was counting on this for when I did because Id like to stay near home if i can
7/27/2006 2:43:42 PM
you could always go to new york city
7/27/2006 2:45:01 PM
That is going to kill the town of Selma.
7/27/2006 2:45:05 PM
yeah thats what I feel so bad about, this is the largest imployer in the area not named Wal-mart
7/27/2006 2:46:02 PM
250 jobs shouldn't kill off selma - it's population is 20x that
7/27/2006 2:46:16 PM
oh shit!
7/27/2006 2:47:12 PM
yeah I know, but for the 5 or 10 people here that were almost at retirement, it really sucks
7/27/2006 2:47:35 PM
what kind of severance are they offering
7/27/2006 2:49:24 PM
like one month for every year you have been here,or up to 52 weeks, it all depends8 weeks for me
7/27/2006 2:52:21 PM
pretty typical - the cap kills the old-timers
7/27/2006 2:53:45 PM
exactly and this is a "lifer" plantanyway im going home, fuck this i might work till lunch tomorrow, but mainly i'll be on TWW killing time
7/27/2006 2:55:17 PM
the day and age of working for a company for 20+ years is gone. I know our parents did it in the 80's and 90's but you can't do it now.The south needs to adjust from this philosophy.
7/27/2006 3:03:45 PM
Selma is largely working class. It stinks for hunter, but at least he has an advanced degree. THe Eastern end of the state has more working class people than it knows what to deal with. This plant closing effects the working class and every other Selma business worked with the plant. People will have to go out of town to get jobs, most likely do their shopping there and evidentually move. It happened in Erwin when the jean factory moved. Our generation of high school drop outs is royally screwed.
7/27/2006 3:19:28 PM
That's what they get for dropping out of high school.
7/27/2006 4:19:05 PM
wow I love the empathy some of you obviously posess fuckin robots
7/27/2006 4:24:08 PM
I've got no empathy for people who shot themselves in the foot (high school dropouts).
7/27/2006 4:31:41 PM
selma will survive, they just opened a huge sysco plant there that should hire as many or moresorry about your job though[Edited on July 27, 2006 at 4:38 PM. Reason : hate my spacebar]
7/27/2006 4:38:45 PM

7/27/2006 4:41:28 PM

7/27/2006 4:53:24 PM

7/27/2006 6:57:48 PM

7/27/2006 7:20:09 PM

7/27/2006 9:36:10 PM
