Currently, I am signed up for Phi 340 (online)....should I stick with it or change it to another?

The people I know who have taken that class seemed to like it OK. It's hard to make yourself do all the reading, though, if you don't actually care about what you're covering at all. I took PHI 375, and I liked it. I think it was a lot better to go to the class rather than trying to read it all on your own (in the 24 hours before you take the test...). It all depends on your studying style and which kind of PHI actually interests you. If you will actually do the reading, or are really good at NOT doing the reading and still doing well on the (open-note) tests, then go ahead and take it.

PHI 300 Ancient and Medieval Philosophy.I just graduated ncsu with a philosophy degree in the spring, and out of the nearly 20 philosophy courses I had, that was my favorite. I had some other really good ones, but for someone who is only planning on taking 1 philosophy course, and wants to have an enjoyable course rather than just one they push through to meet a requirement, that is the one.

Do a search for PHI 340 and you'll get lots of posts.Basically, if you take that course credit only it's nearly impossible to not get an "S". But, on the other hand, it's almost certainly impossible to get an "A" if taking it for a grade. Weigh your options, I took this for credit only and rocked an "S" with minimal effort.

that class suckedlet me rephrase: if you like philosophy classes with zero discussion and rediculous multiple choice tests with answers that are instructor opinions, by all means take this class.[Edited on July 25, 2006 at 10:29 PM. Reason : .]

i'm in 221 right now, and it's pretty good. i wish we'd done something else besides environmentalism, but I guess that's the anthropocentric in me

^ i hated 221. it had soo much potential, but the teacher really sucked. who do you have? we didnt talk about environmentalism hardly at all when i took it.

Intro to Cog Sci is double listed as PHI and PSY, plus Endicott is cool

^^ my 221 teacher sucked too. I had Pierce.

PHI 375 sucked for me... the lecture didn't correspond that well to the reading, and the exams were on a whole 'nother level...i think i had pierce, too[Edited on July 29, 2006 at 12:30 PM. Reason : .]

I enjoyed 340 (that's Science, right?) and I also took Early Modern last year...I don't remember what course number it was. But it was good.

I liked 205 and 375. 340 was a terrible class, but at least you don't have to do much.http://www.thewolfweb.com/school_course.aspx?department=PHI&coursenumber=340

http://www.thewolfweb.com/school_instructor.aspx?department=PHI&instructor=5535Jesseph teaches phi 300 that I mentioned. Looking at school tool, it looks like I'm the only person to ever give him below a 4 when I gave a 3. Although in retrospect, now that I have more classes to compare it to, a 4 would be fitting.

INTRO was easy as fuck

slightly off topic ......but has anyone had the engineering ethics course? STS 320??
7/31/2006 9:49:43 AM
does anyone have any old exams?

PHI 340 was the easiest "A" in all of NCSU-dom. ever. i mean goddamn, the entire class is on the internet, you have open-internet exams, where you have 24 hours to complete at your leisure.and yet, you still hear all these people complaining and bitching and moaning, and failing the class.but, i have to say, i didnt really learn much. i cant really remember anything from it, other than "Professor Austin is not a Dualist."

Take Levenbook for something - I never made anything less than a 110 on any test, she gives you a "study guide" in the course pack, that looks awfully familiar come test day.
