Stocking a lab that will be used for some design projects. We have the basics so I'm trying to think of some other stuff that might get used, I figure a tap and die would be important for machined prototype parts. Any other tools you think we could use?

harbor freight brand, cheap with a lifetime warrantyother parts: cnc mill, compressor, welder, plasma cutter

of the the things i would buy at harbor freight, none of those would be on the list.

I meant the tap and die set from harbor freight, get a quality cnc mill, but I'd get the rest at harbor freight

Let me clarify, this not a machine shop all that is somewhere else. This is where assembly, testing, and tinkering will be done.[Edited on July 24, 2006 at 8:52 PM. Reason : And price isn't an issue if the quality is good.]

^those fuckers break too easy
7/26/2006 9:27:13 AM
you need a mcmaster catalog, buy in bulk because they wear out and can break if used incorrectly.
7/26/2006 8:10:30 PM
or buy snap on with a lifetime waranty
7/26/2006 8:56:45 PM
snap on will warranty a tap?
7/26/2006 9:57:00 PM
yep, at least our guy will, dpeends on if they want to be a jackass i guess, they warranty chisels and punches too
7/26/2006 9:57:53 PM
yea, no way id buy a tap and die set from HF. However pretty much every wrench and brute force tool I have, along with pretty much all my air tools and electric shit is from there.

I work at sears...our tap and die isn't warranted but i've used it. and it's pretty good shit...never broke any of them....decent price too
7/27/2006 10:47:51 AM
Went with craftsman because we have an account with them.
7/27/2006 10:55:33 AM
i'm not trying to tap titanium or anything, but for chasing bolts/threads and for fixing things that get marred up/crossthreaded, etc my set has been working fine. *shrug*

Cheap taps cause $$$$$$$$$ to remove when they break
7/27/2006 2:35:55 PM
exactly. we have a big snap on set at the shop.
7/27/2006 6:18:13 PM
^^ The cheap stuff of fine to chase stuff with. Just be sure to use some oil with any of them. Snap-on ones are made by OSG.....good stuff
