i need to either make, borrow, or buy a set of very pretty fairy wings... not tinkerbellish, more like something resembling amy brown's fairies. it's for a photo shoot, and they need to be as realistic as possible. color doesn't matter, though black would be awesome. any ideas are appreciated!

i think i still have my wings somewhere...and the costume that went with it. it was a green costume with a tattered skirt bottom and top...the wings were green and orange. real big. not like amy brown's wings though

oh... thanks but they need to be kind of "dark" for lack of better terms, kind of a gothic feel to the shots. these things are hard to find!

now you've got me started, i wonder if they make HUGE ones...

I was just thinking about wings the other day as my black angel wings need replacing before halloween.i've never seen HUGE fairy wings, i'm thinking those would have to be self made, I should look into how perhaps.Googling got a few links, but the basics seem to be-14-16 guage galvanized steel wire for the frames.Hose, or another sheer material to be glued, taped, or sewn on to the wire frame (One place that wanted $texas for premade used Organza silk)straps of some form. I recommend against elastic and highly suggest doing something with a velcro or button open and shut types sytem, elastic will pull against the cloth and frame and that's how my angel wings got screwed up.http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art41908.aspIt sounds pretty simple and judging off the places that sell the far overpriced custome ones, it seems that the majority of your time should be spent in the planning/design and then in the decoration - be that via embroidery, having multiple types of cloth on it, etc. airbrushing is also another thing mentioned in one or the other of the links.[Edited on July 24, 2006 at 2:50 PM. There's a shop in downtown Asheville that has exactly what you're looking for. Can't remember the name for the life of me, think it's some game shop though.

We usually sold some at Hot Topic. They weren't the most realistic things in the world, but they were darker, not happy go lucky fairy.
