I have had these drives in for years and there is power going to both drives / doesnt look like i need to replace them. This just happened in the last couple of days and i noticed it late last night.the device manager shows that i get a code 41 using google i see that i need to DL a copy of Guided Help to remove some registry filesany of you guys have any other options or ideasi really dont want to go messing with the registry.i gotta run a virus det. / adware/ spybot and hijack this tonight when i get home to see if anything funky shows up.any advice would be appreciated

Did you try the usuals? Device Manager -> Uninstall -> Reinstall/Scan for new devices

You sure windows doesn't have some close fit drivers that will be used automatically?

yes, you shouldn't need 3rd party drivers for cd drives

If you can open the case, try testing each independent of the other.
