^ DVD player won't count, not sure about networking, they have a few restrictions, ie. printers rn't tax free.

I've done the last 2 and hopefully this will be my last tax free event!

what the fuck...why the hell are you rejoicing over a break from taxes?

did you mean something along the lines of "hopefully this is the last time I'll be dealing with this, as I'm moving out of NC"?

Oh hell...

It's august 4-6?

I thought it was 11-13...

The bookstore's going to be disappointed when I tell them I actually can't work but three hours on one of those days (family will be in town, I can't miss that).

Hmm.. I'll check on printers at work, they weren't tax free last year and I was told that they wouldn't be again this year.

but seriously, to the people who are going shopping, why?
i can understand on something big like a computer, but why do people go apeshit on buying clothes for 7% off?

Lots of places have sales going on so you're not just saving the 7%.

To everyone that's arguing about the tax free weekend...

Feel free to write your congressman about how you think they should do away with it. I'll even include some text, all you have to do is cut, paste, and fire off the e-mail...

Dear Congressman Bob Etheridge,

I hate saving money. The only thing I hate more than saving money is seeing others save money. In light of this, please do all that is within your power to rid the state of the blight that is the tax free weekend.

Sincerely,

Jerk Q. Public

People make too big of a deal out of this bullshit.

"OH SHIT, a 7% OFF SALE!"

It isn't that serious. If you did even a slight bit of shopping/research, you can find a better deal any normal day of the year.

But no, since people make a huge deal out of this bullshit weekend, I am stuck working at Circuit City from 6:30am-7pm on my 21st birthday. Fuck that. Fuck this.

i dont know...this is a time when everything you need for school is on sale. im sure you could find better deals throughout the year, but they probably wouldnt all fall on the same day ( or weekend). this is simply more convinient.

don't work retail if you don't want to deal with this kind of thing.

get a different job if it upsets you - i never worked on any of my birthdays until my 23rd - i took off every single one up until then - only took a half day for this year

7% isn't a huge deal on smaller purchases - most places have pretty large sales also though - i know you don't think the typical person that walks into circuit city cares - they've been brainwashed to believe they should just buy b/c they are saving money

I thought the tax free was just for clothes and school supplies type stuff? I was in the mall the other day (Cary) with my wife in a perfume/cologne store and the lady there said to comeback this weekend since it'll be tax free. Not that saving like 6 or 7% is all that big a deal, but I didn't think that would qualify

Since everyone is bringing up where they work,
BN doesn't have all books tax free, only Reference Books like dictionaries, thesauri, children's school work books and textbooks, etc. The minimal school supplies are tax free too, like pens, pencils, markers, etc.

I need to pick up Office 2004 for my new Mac... will this be considered tax free? I didn't see any kind of software on the list, but it seems like it would be.

so can you not buy textbooks online from the Bookstore tax-free. I just tried doing this but it was still adding tax to the total and all the books are under 100.

why would perfume be tax free? That's not school related. I also heard that Apple is trying to make a case for their Ipods to be tax free.

I agree with Ronny. I don't think having to deal with the 2304238753495 other people out this weekend is really worth saving 7%. That said, I am going to the mall tonight, but only as a companion.

Oh, whatever. I'm sure that they told you when you were hired that it is a blackout period for all time off. When Best Buy hires you, they make it absolutely clear that you will work tax free or you will not be hired. A manager's wife went into labor early and his baby was born prematurely this week and he is going to be working all day every day over tax free.

The NCSU Bookstore should have extended its hours more for the tax-free weekend. They are opening on Saturday and Sunday, but they should be staying open until at least 9 p.m. (Friday through Sunday)--and I would prefer they stay open until midnight.

I went to the Bookstore around 5:30 this afternoon, and in the few minutes that I was there, I saw over ten people walking up to the door and close to ten cars with people apparently looking to shop. The Bookstore managers obviously don't give a crap about customer service.

customer service? the bookstore doesn't even have many people to work there to begin with...if the workers go on over time the bookstore will have to pay them even more money which they probably don't want to do.. and midnight? thats stupid once again they don't have many people working at the bookstore
