the only way it could possibly compete or provide an edge is if it has wireless with an ad/hoc mode to share with other users. That way pressure is put onto peers to also have microsoft equipment.

Apple seems to do a good job advertising that M$ is not "cool", as their latest commercials show. I will certainly be buying one though

M$ always takes Apple's crap and makes it better.

Just imagine it having Live anywhere

Give that thing wireless internet access and a way of getting to YouTube or Google Video and they'll sell without issue.

I think working out the legal issues of that, or wireless sharing would be VERY difficult. Also, Microsoft hates Google.

ROFL as well

^^ Was that a legitimate question? If so, they've said they're not going the way of wireless.

Basically, what I meant was that if you allow it to wirelessly access the internet, those two things will be the big advantages in it's favor, whether they like Google or not.

I don't think there's any legal issues with wireless sharing, unless it allows for copying.

Basically, iTunes shares files for listening, not copying. This device could do the same.

With every rumor of a new iPod, it's rumored that Apple would add this feature.

It would be a cool feature, but whether or not it takes off depends on its UI. The iPod's design is what first made it popular. MS and MTV are going to advertise the hell out of Zune probably, but whether it takes off is going to depend on it having a good design.

^ Someone will definitely create something to do that... but it won't be legal, just like that mytunes isn't technically legal either. But technically, it's no different than iTunes sharing, so it shouldn't be legally different.

It'll be nice to see another player that'll support WMA, I only know of a few that do it currently. I wonder how long it'll be before we see .ogg supported on a player.

lifedrive, 4 gig hd, sd card, wirless acess via 802.11b, bluetooth connection to your cellphone or to a wireless headset, video playback built in ,widescreen capable, plus can be upgraded with any palm os video or audio player, unlike a dedicated unit like an ipod or the like.

are they really that hard to find? i picked up a 5gb muvo2 fm about a year ago for $100, and it supports WMA...my old TDK mp3 player (about 4 years old) also supported wma

the compression IS nice, though...i can't tell a difference between a 128kbps mp3 and a 64kbps wma, both of which are fine for a pair of headphones
