pretty much 2 options....She can go to best buy(or a store like it/online) and get a GPS that is meant for the car with voice commands and all that good stuff. Except it sticks to the window and plugs in the cigarette lighter.(Easy install) Cost approx. $400-1000. I would recommend Garmin since she is a first time user. Some people like a Magellan though..Other option is replacing the whole indash CD/AM/FM/Cassette with a nav TV. I would recommend the Pioneer Z1 or Pioneer N3. This route cost around $2000 for the product and should be installed by a professional which cost around $100-200. This way she would not only get nav but also be to watch DVD's and I think the new pioneers have a bluetooth option.[Edited on July 18, 2006 at 10:11 PM. Reason : .]

My roommate just got a kickass touch-screen Kenwood for $1300. Cost about $200 to have it installed. I've borrowed his truck a few times for both in town and long trips...it works awesome.

if you are going to spend more than 800 you should go the car pc route just about everytime - easy to upgrade the maps every year

for 300-400 range ur options are limted to mapquest and google earth. honeslty most of the units under 500$ are now better than looking up directions hold off until you can afford something a little nicer that will actualy save u time and energy.
