I've ridden several XPs between the 1993-2004 model. I love the way they handle, and I doubt I'd buy anything else if I were in the market for a sit-down ski.It seems like I remember the 800 being a problem motor for some reason though. I'm not 100% sure on that, but you might want to do some searching through the forums on sbtontheweb.com and various other sites on the internet.

if you're going to do any amount of ocean/salt water riding, stay away from a seadoo. they're decent for lake use though, the hulls just don't do great in rough/choppy water without some upgrades. imo, yamaha makes about the best all around ski.

Kawasaki makes a bad ass sled too that is for the stand up deals

The 951 was actually the "problem motor" that I was thinking of. The 787 is supposed to be very reliable. The biggest problems with the older motors came from water getting into the engine and oil pumps failing. Cold water in a hot engine is never good...Especially if it stays in there long enough to rust. The oil injection pump is mostly plastic and can fail over time...You can imagine what happens when the top end stops getting oil. I took the oil pump off mine and run a pre-mix now.I've heard a lot of bad things about superchargers grenading on the newer engines. High boost + no resistance (jumping) is supposed to be really bad on it. Riva makes a BOV that is supposed to prevent that type of failure. I got a chance to ride a new RXT (215 HP Supercharged 1500cc) a few weeks ago and it was definately a nice riding machine. As for the hull shape...I love them. I can enjoy riding my Sea Doo all day long in the main lake at Lake Gaston. It's all about being smooth and hitting the waves like a double jump. Jump one, land on the backside of the next, repeat. My dad's GP1200 beats me to death because I can't get the thing to jump and land smoothly on the backside of the next wake. It's just too heavy and too long to ride it smoothly. It's all about personal preference, but I just don't enjoy the thing. I might take a different opinion if I was riding with the bigger wakes on the ICW, but I doubt it.[Edited on July 17, 2006 at 7:27 PM. Reason : k]

I'd prefer Yamaha. I've got a WaveRadier 700 ('96) and the thing is solid.

how fast do the new stand ups go? and who makes the best
7/17/2006 11:45:57 PM
anyone ever ride one of these? its a kawasaki X2
7/17/2006 11:48:43 PM
the new ones weigh under 300lbs and have 73 something horsepower...i've got an 03 that is basically stock and according to the handheld waterproof gps receiver it does 45mph. i weigh 190lbs...i've only owned superjets. but don't get me wrong, if you ride them hard they will break. no major engine trouble, just things like breaking handlepoles and what not.

I bought the ski yesterday and took it out to Jordan Lake for a few minutes today. I was super impressed with how fast it planes out, and it would get up to about 60 on the speedo in just a few seconds.

Congrats...That's a sweet ride.

7/19/2006 11:29:47 AM
I'm in the market too, that polaris is more than I want to spend though, I'm looking to drop around 2500, anyone have any leads on one?
7/19/2006 11:44:28 AM
the polaris' i road were good skis and if my mind serves me correctly the 785 had 130hp and weighed alot less then the new skis do.
