My gf has a 11 month old Himalayan cat. Recently he has had a problem with really runny stool, off and on. He has really long fine hair which makes it a real problem because he keeps getting shit stuck in his fur. In addition to the runny stool he also has blood in his stool occasionally. Otherwise he is in good health. He eats "Purina Kitten Chow" and his only treats are "Whiskas Temptations". In addition he likes to munch on the other cats food which is "Hills prescription Feline M/D". His diet has not changed since he was 3 months old, and this problem has only started recently. He has been to the vet and had numerous tests done; for parasites, fecal exam float which was negative, and a fecal exam smear. That's all the info I can come up with. How do I get the cat to stop shitting all over himself? Any help or advice or referral to resources or a good vet would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like worms to me. The vet on Jones Franklin is good.

does she not have a regular vet?my cat goes to glenwood animal hosiptalyou need to take the cat first thing in the morning or maybe even tonight-- how long has the cat had runny bloody stool?? thats a sign of a serious issue...does the vet you've been taking the cat to not seem concerned?? did they keep it over night?[Edited on July 15, 2006 at 11:34 PM. Thanks for the advice...he has a regular vet he's been going to since she had him. They checked for a fever, parasites, and worms, and found nothing. She told them about the bloody stool, which is a big reason these tests were done, but they found nothing wrong and said sometimes when a cat gets diarrhea, the area will get irritated and sometimes cause blood. He's had the bloody stool off and on for a couple months. But more regularly recently. [Edited on July 15, 2006 at 11:42 PM. Reason : blah]

hah im sorry but i laughed at this thread title
7/15/2006 11:42:40 PM
how long has it been going on for?if it's been awhile i might take the cat to another vet for a second opinionotherwise, i guess just let it run its course-- cats can be shaved to get rid of the shit stained furits not exactly pretty but its better than a cat that smells like shitmy mom takes our long haired cat to get a "bikini wax" as we call it and she gets her ass shaved so her shit doesn't get stuck in it- works out well
7/15/2006 11:42:54 PM
^ yeah, I've been in favor of the shaving idea for a while. I think that might be the next step. Where in the Cary/ Raleigh area can we take him to be trimmed, and how much it would cost? Any idea if a change in diet would help at all?
7/15/2006 11:54:13 PM
Your cat is melting from it's long fur and intense heat, I suggest you stick it in the freezer
7/16/2006 12:00:38 AM
when i was four, i put our cat in the freezer. my mom found it a few days later.
7/16/2006 12:07:11 AM
^That's one of the most heartless thing I've ever heard of.Hope the cat in question gets better. I've only heard of bad things when a cat had bloody diarrhea. You need to take it to a different vet.
7/16/2006 12:15:26 AM
feed him to the dog fuck face
7/16/2006 12:18:58 AM
Fuck...MsWuf must have been 1) cruel or 2) stupid.I mean, like, that is insane.
7/16/2006 12:25:22 AM
she was 4, give her a breakher mommas fault for obviously not feeding her children for AT LEAST 4 days apparently
7/16/2006 12:28:09 AM
you can get the cat shaved for the summerit would probably be a lot more comfortableglenwood animal hospital is where we take all our petsi think the ass shaving is around $10 or sosometimes they'll do it for free if we're taking her in for a bunch of other stuff
7/16/2006 12:38:17 AM
step 1) Get rid of cat.step 2) .....step 3) Profit.

My advice, shave him for now. No treats, no eating the other cat's food. And I'd try to switch him over to a new food. Obviously something is causing this diarreha, and nothing else fits, so nix the food. Normally you want to gradually do this...but I'd say if you can switch him in maybe a week that ought to be fine, just mix them together, more of the old, less of the new, until it's all new. Not sure what food to recommend, I guess just not the kitten crap he gets now. Perhaps he doesn't need the kitten crap and it's too rich for him thus causing the diarreha? Just a thought. But seriously, this cannot be good for the cat and something needs to be done asap. Think how raw your ass gets when you have days of diarreha, he must feel ten times worse with it stuck to him.

I thought all cats shat themselves, but they cleaned it up and stuff.
7/16/2006 7:02:47 AM
My neighbor's cat had that problem; it was too much of a fatty to clean its own butt.
7/16/2006 7:08:13 AM
the cat could have IBD or something similar to that. or it could be allergic to the food. Have they checked for giardia? my last cat had diarrhea for several months and we couldn't figure out why. it was giardia. after about 3-4 weeks of antibiotics and anti-diarrhea medicine it went away. mention this to your vet.

You need to take him to a vet. He could have parvo or some other icky bacterial infection. Constant loose and bloody stool is a very bad sign, especially for a kitten. Get that taken care of.
7/16/2006 7:38:04 PM
^^ that is a weak ass first post
7/16/2006 7:58:07 PM
My kitten got the runny shits when he decided to drink some oil out of the deep fryer. Sorry for your cat problems. I would take him to the vet, especially if his stool is bloody. If it's red then it could be from forcing but I doubt that since his shit's runny. If it's internal bleeding I believe it would be more black by the time it gets out and really sticky. That's what I thought anyway, could be wrong.
7/16/2006 8:13:34 PM
Overfeeding/eating can mess up a cat's stomach. Watch him to see exactly how much he's eating...
7/17/2006 1:12:33 PM
^^^^Only dogs get parvo 'tard.
7/17/2006 7:23:13 PM
actually several animals can get parvo, including humans, cats, and pigs

actually ... it was in the middle of july and i thought it was hot. it kept panting. the two kids across the street held the freezer open. ...i was just testing cryogenics at a young age, at the time, i didn't think i was being heartless. i had totally blocked it out until my parents and the neighbors were discussing the dumb stuff we had done as kids over father's day last month.[Edited on July 17, 2006 at 10:27 PM. man. cats are kewl, but also nutty. my cat is marking everything all the time. considering getting rid of her.
7/17/2006 11:26:39 PM
It's a completely different DNA strand and virus though. And much more common for dogs to get doggy parvo, I have never heard of a cat getting a kitty version.
7/18/2006 7:09:04 AM
It might be different strands, but they can still get it. The symptoms are different than dogs too.
7/18/2006 7:57:01 AM
amsterdam, have you checked her urine? She could have a problem that she can not help. I would have that checked before you get rid of her.
7/18/2006 7:57:43 AM
odie PWNT Lutra FTW!Kitty parvo happens.
