This is the kind of conversation among NCSU students that other schools think we have all day.

next time you might want to title the thread a little better (assuming this is a serious thread)that way you just might get the attention of someone who knows some shit about selling pine needles.

I love it when new business majors start dropping opportunity cost.I mean he is asking about bailing hay, this probably won't be detracting from the time he would be spending on his hedge fund.
7/13/2006 8:24:20 PM
well i was talking ab time AND moneyhe could use the $5300 for something elseand sorry i went to class and used a glossary word to ask a questioni'll never use my degree again, i promise
7/13/2006 8:27:54 PM
i was just looking at this as a possible investment, i'm not some ignorant hick going to ncsu for an agricultral engineering degree
7/13/2006 8:33:01 PM
how many bales do you get per acre? 3 to 5 acres does not sound like very much.
7/13/2006 8:57:42 PM
Bottom line is that if you got the hookups to do this, you can probably make money.Unfortunately it's a tough call without more numerical data.
7/13/2006 8:57:50 PM
consider the time value of money

My father has a landscaping company and we buy pinestraw in pretty large amounts from this guy for between $4-5/bale and I know he gives us a deal since we've been customers with him for so long. So, I'd say 2.25 a bale isn't that great and would try to aim for more. At least check around with some others in the business and see what they charge. This is in eastern NC so I don't know if they prices are different elsewhere in the state.
7/15/2006 11:02:29 AM
I know people in Goldsboro where I can drive my truck to their lot and collect the pine straw myself.
7/15/2006 11:03:53 AM
So you'll have to rake up and collect all the pine straw on your own? It's gonna take a huge amount of time before you pay off the tractor and start making a profit, especially for $2.25 a bale.

7/15/2006 11:36:33 AM
bad idea
7/15/2006 4:08:23 PM
I'd buy the tractor and bailer for that price anywaysyou can use it elsewhere also
