First let me say I know how to use Google. That being said, I'm getting ready to move and I have a ton of clothes and some other misc stuff that I don't use and rather then move it all I would like to just give it all away (unless there is some way to make a few bucks ). What is the best charitable organization to donate to? If you have a favorite cause, convince me to donate it there...if they will pick up the stuff thats even better.

(sorry, I just couldn't resist being that guy for once)
Now that its out of my system, I recommend Salvation Army off of Tryon (just east of S. Saunders).

Second on the Salvation Army on Tryon... also, if you don't need a receipt or anything there are plenty of clothes donation bins across the triangle in shopping centers, near major roadways, etc. that you can just put the clothes in a bag in and they'll do the rest.

Last time I dropped some clothes off there was a bin in the shopping center on the corner of Tryon and Jones Franklin/Holly Springs/that whole intersection... near the mini-golf.

OH! And if you have towels and stuff you can donate them to the SPCA and help a few pups and kittens out, too. List of things they need donated at: http://www.spcawake.org/wishlist.html

Depending how much it is "worth", Goodwill will give you a tax write off if you say it's worth at least $200, I believe.

I normally shy away from the drop off boxes, because most of them go to for-profit resale shops.

I usually just drop them off at Salvation Army. Maybe check with Red Cross, or some homeless shelters downtown. I don't know how to look for them though. Or maybe some church somewhere does a lot of charity work for homeless/poor people.

Abbeygail's Closet, right near Powell Drive and the fairgrounds on Hillsborough, is a great organization. They accept items Wednesday until Saturday and divide it up between what is saleable, what can be used at the Women's Center, and a church that helps needy families. You can leave things on the porch or by the shed as well. All proceeds support the Women's Center of Raleigh. They are also wonderful ladies...very friendly and helpful

I always do Vietnam Vets. And they'll pick it up.

Oh, and give you a tax write off receipt.
