in college football according to SI.com collumnist Stewart Mandel...http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/stewart_mandel/06/28/mandel.mailbag/index.htmlI don't think he is one of the 5 worst but he is a shitty coach. He couldn't do anything better than 6-5 regular season with all that talent? And just look at all those stupid ass penalties. And 38 yards of offense in a half? I almost puked.

^ i think that link, message_topic.aspx?topic=400622, has become one of the most linked threads in Sports Talk recently.

Hey i searched that shit and i didn't see in on the front page. I am not going to sit here and look through pages and pages of threads. So sorry and fuck off.
7/12/2006 12:44:56 AM
regardless of whether you could find a thread or not, this is not news
7/12/2006 12:46:16 AM
^^you missed the point dumbass. The point is that you didn't need to post it, regardless. If it's 2 weeks old and about NCSU, we've already seen it.[Edited on July 12, 2006 at 12:46 AM. Reason : sdfsdf]

Nice to see the media bullying us around...itll give us even more reason to play hard and win.GG CHUCK!
8/7/2006 1:33:20 PM
that was a great response...
8/7/2006 1:35:50 PM
Damn, I have to give props to Chuck for his response. Normally he comes off as a douche in his media retorts, but that one was as solid as I've seen.
8/7/2006 1:38:11 PM
this guys going to be fired next season, I'll put money on it.
8/7/2006 1:38:13 PM
how much?I'll take that bet.
8/7/2006 1:38:44 PM
good stuff chuck.... we need to stop bashing our coaches and restore some of the faith.
8/7/2006 2:22:27 PM
8/7/2006 2:23:01 PM
ditto
8/7/2006 2:23:20 PM
That was a great response. However it makes me ask this: When he came to NC State, did he say "We are going to be the best in the state" or did he say "We are going to win NC's" or did he say both?
8/7/2006 2:27:13 PM
see when he said he'd put money on it, he didn't actually mean he would put money on it.
8/7/2006 2:28:02 PM
8/7/2006 2:33:06 PM
^um.....[no]
8/7/2006 2:36:17 PM
^If you don't think the fact that Chuck graduated from here is helping his job security you better look again.Chuck's BEST ACC record is 5-3. Herb had winning ACC seasons 4 out of his last 5 years.
8/7/2006 2:39:08 PM
i don't think it has a thing to do with him attending ncsu. i think that may have helped him land the job, but the talent he has brought in and the renewed interest in our football program is what is keeping him his job.i just wish he'd add some on-field accomplishments to that list as well.[Edited on August 7, 2006 at 2:41 PM. 8/7/2006 2:41:00 PM
i am seriously tired of hearing the "we ran off Herb" bullshityeah our fans gave him a hard time, but ultimately he chose a deal that was best for him financially and suited his value proposition as a "rebuilding coach"older folks from Duke tell me that K faced the same if not worse criticism during his early years, and he didn't run offi think the chips have fallen where they were supposed toChuck will not be run off in the next year or two because he will outperform expectations. And yes, being an alum has quite a bit to do with how much leeway he gets.
8/7/2006 2:42:54 PM
here we go again
8/7/2006 2:43:42 PM
you people
8/7/2006 2:44:18 PM
its a shame that we like to run off our coaches.
8/7/2006 2:45:47 PM
^^^^we didnt run off herb? i guess all those "Fire Herb" signs at basketball games and fans booing him at football games had nothing to do with it
8/7/2006 4:12:23 PM
Hey can we compare football and basketball some more?
8/7/2006 4:13:30 PM
idk i'm pretty sure i wouldnt put him on a list of the 5 worst, but hes obviously not like a great coach or anything
8/7/2006 4:14:46 PM
larry coker is on the hot seat tooi believe anything the media tells me
8/7/2006 4:16:08 PM
^only if its fox news
8/7/2006 4:16:57 PM
corso was saying he thought coker was on the hot seat because miami hadnt been covering spreads
8/7/2006 4:21:17 PM
Then he promply put on a duck costume and started prancing around like an idiot.
8/7/2006 4:22:44 PM
yeah...corso knows nothing about college football
8/7/2006 4:25:40 PM
^If these guys really knew their football, they would still be coaching.
8/7/2006 4:26:57 PM
or they would make more money to watch football and talk about it on tv
8/7/2006 4:51:05 PM
Amato is the third best coach the Wolfpack have had. He's not amazingly great or anything, but to run him off and think we could get someone better(short of Cowher the pipedream) is silly.Great recruiter and program promoter, relates to fans and alumni and students and generally gets people excited. Needs to keep assistants longer. Needs to improve gameday coaching somewhat. He's better than the other ACC coaches with the exception of Bowden, Coker, and Beamer.

^Or Louisville....or Northern Illinois (I think?).Corso is shit.
8/7/2006 5:16:14 PM
i hate corso's pencil[Edited on August 7, 2006 at 5:20 PM. Reason : him holding the pencil]
8/7/2006 5:19:41 PM
Corso coached when my dad played at Louisville. He was a goober and nobody took him seriously. He sent recruits to frat parties and could not discipline shit. He was a good recruiter and poor X's and O's coach.
8/7/2006 7:14:32 PM
8/7/2006 8:03:44 PM
8/8/2006 10:15:33 AM
corso is my personal bitch
8/8/2006 11:54:49 AM
8/8/2006 12:00:04 PM
My dad was at Louisville when Corso was there. He was a great recruiter and was considered a "young and vibrant" replacement to legendary Louisville coach, Frank Camp. However, he played cupcake teams and therefore "looked good" to the school, but failed to get national respect they deserved. One interesting thing he did was put American flags on the helmets during Vietnam.
8/8/2006 2:00:20 PM
I think this years offense is set up to be allot better than years past. Just hope the defense can keep its shit together.
